my battery is going out. What would you guys replace it with? I saw the other MOTY micro battery thread and a fellow 690'er tried the MOTY and it would not crank over. it's starting to just click and not crank. My dealer is offering to deep charge/analyze it on a battery bench for free. I guess that could not hurt but I will buy the replacement from him if its bad, just need to know what to order..

That's what I use as well and it works great.

This is looking like a good opportunity to shed a few pounds. The speedcell is $250 and the comparable MOTY designs is $160. I willorder the MOTY 8-cell and update everyone when I get it. Thanks for the direction here guys!!

THOR...which battery did you end up getting and how's it working out? I was looking at the BikeMaster TruGel battery. (weights 3lbs, 8-cells, 2yr warranty) Even sell them on ebay for $80. The stock Yuasa battery (YTZ10S) weighs 7lbs. ughh

Uhm well, I've only experience with the 4.6Ah version (previous version to the 5.2Ah) and only in a racebike (supermono) with no alternator fitted. The bike (with KTM 690 engine) only had to last a race distance, about 30mins. But it holds its charge very long even after a year of use.

Nack....now that's a serious battery. It's weighs close to nothing. Thanks for the link. Which model do you use and in which bike? Has lasted awhile? Many years back, I removed a cell pack from a "jump start" box and wired it into my ducati 916. Weighed like 12oz. Worked like a charm for about a year, than 1 day it was totally dead. Wish they'd retire old heavy lead acid based batteries for bikes.

update; I wanted to get the Moty designs and then make a foam "BOX" to fill the battery compartment, to hold everything together. I ended up getting the bikemaster true gel for $90. It seems to be just as good as original, just as heavy too! The 2 year warranty is what sold me!!!!

My bike wouldn't start after the winter
I put it on charger for over a day and it still wouldn't start
I suspected the battery because it just made a click sound under the seat and I had this sound before when I had a low battery (also battery had been feeling weak - battery light often coming on when hitting starter button etc.)

I got a Shorai LFX14A4-BS12 Lithium Battery
bike started right up
seems to be working fine so far
I tested the new battery and the voltage is 13.47 - is this correct?

That is correct.

I have a cheap Lithium Battery in my 690, it's small (fit my phone and sunnies in the relocated battery box with the spare space.), light!! And cranks it over fast.

Lithium batteries hold their charge well - good if like me, the bike isn't ridden regularly.

Some (Most?) Lithium batteries should be charged with a specific charger. (If charging is ever required)
Mine (SSB LFPZ5-S - specified for EXCs, see "spare space" ) specifically states "use normal charger"
