Juz a simple question...Lately the front part of my bike is giving me a ticking sound when i push it but when i'm travelling the sound stops..My brother sugggests that the bearings for my front wheel needs to be replaced...i was wondering, does anyone know the bearing number for DRZ400SM front and rear wheel??

Could it be the speedo gear that is making contact with the "fork" prongs?
Is the bike in the air when it is happening. If you have ever taken off the wheel the speedo gear has two little "forks"/ "prongs" that make contact wih a mating part in the wheel that rotate to give you the speedo reading. At least this was how it was done in the old days. I assume the DRZ's are this way as well. I havent had mine apart yet.
Could this be the noise you are hearing?

Are you sure the noise is coming from the front?
Could it be that the front or rear sprockets are worn, look like ocean waves, and when the bike is moved backwards the chain is "clicking" because it is not rotating in the normal direction. I'm not suggesting that you are wrong with the bearings being worn. Just trying to think of some other possibilities that could cause the noise before you spend money and start chasing it issue with adding parts that may not fix the issue.

Anyone else have something to add?

Kevin

edit: Because it is a unitized bearing and if it is worn out. Then you should be able to feel quite a bit of "wobble" at the axle if it is toast. Check this by lifting the bike if you can then grab the wheel at each end and rock it back and forth in a perpendicular direction to the axle. Does that make sense? Sorry, hard to explain without pics.

Dude you're right!!! It is the speedo!! at first i removed the rims...then cleaned and applied grease to the speedo...then i replaced to new brake pads(i wanted to replace the bearings too but i soon found out that i had the wrong pair,it's actually TOYO 69042RS)....at first there was still the ticking sound but today the sound was gone!! THANKS!!!

+1 ^ about the bearings.... the bearings dont really "tick" when they need replaced, they just get wobble in them... could be something in your brakes maybe? like some kind of grit or something up in the caliper rubbing the rotor.. or could be something like said above about the chain... lots of possible things really.....

its early and my brain isnt functioning right now, let me get some coffee in me and maybe something else will come to mind
