hello

I have a KTM 520 exc 2002 converted into supermoto

Has anybody ever measure their acceleration time from 0-60MPH ? (0-100km/h)?

I would like to know the time from 0-60 for :

stock KTM 525 SMR or 525 exc converted into TARD ?
or any other SM-like CRF 450, YZ 450, husaberg 650, husqwarna SMR 570 and so on

or just comparison: would 525 SMR beat YZF R1 in a 0-60 time(drag race from 0-60mph)?

thats a hard measurement to make, and is based more heavily on the rider's skill than the machine, really. Launching a sumo from a dead stop requires some finesse with the clutch and throttle to keep it from looping.

That all said, I'd put my money on the R1 0-60. A tard will have to shift 2-3 times to get to 60. The R1 with stock gearing can do it in 1st.

i may be able to answer that question for you today. our local drag strip is having a king of the track day today and im thinking of taking my bike (06 450smr) out there just to see what it can do. i know its gonna be different because ive never done a real launch on the ktm yet, but i did race mx forever and did get pretty good at concrete starts, so that may help even though the concrete there was only for a few feet.

some dude recorded a video on a drz 400sm...it seems close to 4 secs. I belive his launch was not perfect...so maybe less. One thing we have is torque, and less weight...so a good launch from a sumo will, imho, beat a good launch on a racebike.

but overall, they win...i think its close anyway...

i have a streeted 01' 520 EXC and its trail gearing was really not ment for street, but its still faster than 90% of the cars out there under 80mph that is.

but mine is running the knobbies right now, do 17's affect speed at all?
hmmm smaller wheel should be going around a little faster sorta like gearing it with a smaller sprocket for higher top end, do the wheels/rims affect this?

I find out that sportbikes like R1, zxr 750 has 3 sec. from 0-60 those are factory datas

if the sumo has under 4 sec. it isn,t that much of a difference against sportbike from 0-60

of course it also dependes on rider skills, weight of a rider and soo on

on my sumo a like to do a roll on gas, I am in third gear and at about 5000 rpms driving about 35 MPH then I hit the gas to max RPMs and the bike pulls like hell

the only mod I have is harder back spring and a half lighter and smaller flywheel from SMR 525 2003 with stator also from smr 525, the CDI is oem

I replaced the CDI with .200 from 450 sx 2003 but I did not like it
Wich CDI do you reccomend for even better results- more power at high rpms-that I like-power at high rpms like 2 stroke bikes?

Probably not a huge difference in 0-60 but I wouldn't expect to beat a real sport bike. I did a stoplight to stoplight drag race with a friend on his SV650 (which isn't the fastest sportbike by any means) and did beat him. BUT...I don't know if he was pushing his bike as hard as he could have. He might have been..but I'm not sure. We didn't get over 70 mph. I don't think he would have started walking away from me until 80+.

supersports and the such usually have a very long first gear so for most of those bikes it's takes some time before they're well on their way, but once they are it'll be hard or in nearly impossible to keep up. supersport bikes these days easily pull 60 in their first gear so before they even get a chance to shift to second you're allready looking at a considerable amount of speed. the main advantage we have is weight and the fact that we have instant power once we hit the throttle so in a short sprint we have the upper hand, but everything over 60 mph, in other words once those supersports hit their higher rev range and their full power kicks in we don't stand much of a chance, that's straight line racing though :D

i just sold my zx10 to come to the motard world, and just for a heads up it would run an indicated 105 in FIRST gear.

so not only will a liter kill a tard in acceleration but it can also run away for good in first gear...lol

supersports (600's) will run around 60mph in first.

that said, i love my tard so far! no regrets!

Many 600s are hard to launch due to poor low rpm torque and high gearing. Many 1000s will light the tire up REALLY easy and kill your launch. Super sports will eat a tard alive in a 1/4 mile and pretty bad in the 1/8. In my experience(which is limited) i can get most off the line but when they come by me at 50-60 it will suck the stickers off your bike.

My R1 will spank my SMR 0-60. I've raced a few sportbikes out of stoplights and kept them pretty honest, much to their dismay. Rider skill plays volumes. If you really want a big giggle, pull up next to a RUB on a Harley with a loud exhaust...:burnout:

Usually you can launch a sumo harder than a dual sport. The traction difference is obvious. Even though the rim is smaller, the diameter of the rear tire is usually very close. The biggest difference is the two inch drop in the front due to the way smaller wheel.

i know i said i was going to run my bike at the 1/4 yesterday, and i did. i was suprised at how slow it was, but heres the times, just for reference.

im gonna list the whole thing for the fastest run.

r/t: .207
60: 2.299
330: 5.971
1/8: 9.249
mph: 73.29
1000: 12.233
1/4: 14.911
mph: 82.24

fastest 60 was 2.211, my speeds in the 1/4 were between 81.75 and 82.84, and my et were 14.911 14.918 and 14.947.

i could do alot better if i regeared the bike (stock 14:45 right now), and if i got to make more than one run at a time. i was at the track for 5 hours and only got 4 runs, with the last two being about 45 min apart. i may even do better if i didnt weigh 270lbs, but thats not the point.

I had to stop lurking and chime in on this one. It sounds like some of you guys have some pretty nice street tards.
My 02 MXC 520 (punched to a 570 amongst many other perf mods) will absolutely smoke the 600 crotch rockets up until about 110 when I run out of gearing. I mean SMOKE them - even on the back tire. And will stick side-by-side with the 1000's up until somewhere around 80 when they shift. I can't catch them, but they can't get away. Those bikes just don't make much power until you get the rev's up. The big thumpers have neck-breaking torque straight from idle. If you get a good start, the light weight and the killer torque will leave a sport bike rider with his jaw on the ground. Of course, I wouldn't know - drag racing on the street is illegal. That's just what I've heard.

But in the end, it's a moot point. None of them will be able to keep up once you hit the corners.... :bike:
