Finally got an engine, it’s an early version 685cc but perfect to start off with
Engine cast sand cast cases, lot of heft in them, not the normal paper thin die cast Japanese, since photo’s I’ve stripped the engine down to bare cases stripped ugly paint, aqua blasted them
New bearings on there way only German/ Japanese no Chinese rubbish
Custom CNC S/A spindle / axle being machined this week
More pics coming ,,,,

Drilled cases halves 25/32” then 20mm with hand Reamer
Next will be machining down the case width to match Vert’s S/A
Cases have corse sandcast finish, so I will be painting them

Nature of custom work it’s not always obvious where problems are until parts
Hence I cannot use the Vert S/A as it’s large O.D bearing boss will not clear the clutch side of case, so now will use VOR Billet S/A which does clear with a little clearance grinding of the case and S/A radius

Wow... can't say I've seen anyone use one of those engines before. If I recall that's the maker of the engine in that old side car dirtbirk race series. Can't think of anywhere else I've seen them used. In any case that's a pretty cool engine and is going to make an amazing build. The build quality of it looks awesome, like it could really take a beating - and probably run forever too with proper maintenance.

Will check back on progress.

Well I’m certainly not the 1st, quite a few on YouTube using Zabel in KTM 250, CRF Husaberg etc
But I hope mine will go a step beyond just making it fit and run ,,,

The 685cc has 5 speed, later 700cc are 4 speed I haven’t analyzed the ratios yet
From others gearing not much an issue has the have broad torque band
