Thanks

Nice work! Hope everything turns out well. Looks like it will and I bet you'll be pretty happy overall. I'm just worried about the ground clearance when going with smaller wheels on an already small bike. The 18" shouldn't be an issue, but 17" might be tough. I was on the same line of thinking with 'tarding my XT but then decided to go the simple sportsman route and use the money for GAS (which is why I got the bike in the first place)!

Yours will look better with the smaller front for sure. Don't forget to add a 16-tooth front sprocket for much improved on-road manners. Actually makes 1st gear useful.

thanks for commenting.

there's a guy on here with 17"s and he seems to be doing just fine with the bike.
there's even a video of him on a kart track putting the xt to work.
he did comment before that 18"s would've been a better choice.

as far as ground clearance goes, i think i will be ok.
the front only lowers 1.5" and i'll relax the rear shock to keep the bike level.
i'm sure it helps i'm only 5'5" and 130lbs.

i was going to go the sportsman route too (i actually still have my 90/90/21 kenda), but decided to go all out with the 18" conversion.

i've been considering a 16T up front, but i don't know yet.
i want to ride it first with the 18"s and then go bigger.

thanks again for commenting.
hopefully the project will be done soon.

btw, what tires are you running?

update:

ok, so a small update.

i ordered a new pro circuit exhaust off ebay, cost: $0. :D

i'm excited to get the exhaust so i can compare it against the FMF.

also, i bought a 14t countershaft sprocket and a 57t rear sprocket off a fellow rider.

i'm going to try the 14t with the stock 45t to see how i like it.
the 57t may never be used, but they were being sold together and at a really affordable price.
in the near future i'll buy a 16t countershaft sprocket as well so i can swap them around and see which i like the most.
beauty of it is, i don't have to break the chain and the swap takes no more than 10 minutes.

i also ordered another stock rear fender off of ebay, cost: $40.
there was some leftovers in my paypal account from some items i had sold an since my original fender was hacked up, i thought i would pick up another one.

i'm still not sure how i feel about the fender i made with the ttr225 fender.

someone on another site modded his tail light on his xt with the original fender and it looked pretty sweet.
i may try that for kicks.

as far as the front wheel goes.
well, i've been so busy at work and i knew i would be, i decided to have someone else do the work.
i was just going to loose lace them anyway and have a professional true them.
this way, a pro did everything.
maybe it was for the better.

i should be getting the wheel back anytime now.

that's it.
once everything comes in, i'll have some pictures up.

update with pics finally!

update

i finally was able to take some pics of the bike in all its glory! :/

i cleaned up the countershaft sprocket and the chain today.
it was definitely in need.

also took off the skid plate and cleaned that up.

i'm growing tired of waiting for the UPS man with my stuff!

here's the little tail bag i bought not long ago.
perfect fit!

i think i realized the fender i made up just isn't going to work.
the more i look at it, i'm realzing it's out too far and just doesn't flow as well as i initially thought.
this is why i haven't painted it yet.
once the fender i got off ebay comes in, i'm going to mount it up and modify the original tail light, moving it in closer to the fender.

next purchase (sometime soon):
- aftermarket levers
- smaller mirrors

anyone have a suggestion for mirrors?

thanks!

Your bike is looking good. I am curious as to how far you take it. Does the exhuast make a diff. in the power? Did you do the snorkle and Z1 mod? I have yet to do that.
But added new bars, busters, front fender cut, and pegs.

the furthest i go, on a consistant/daily basis, is to work. which is approx. 14 miles, each way.
it's mostly backroads, under 50mph.
i have and will take trips much longer, usually for pleasure.
i think the furthest i rode once was 100 miles round trip. i was all over the map that day.

the exhaust made a difference for sure.
alone, maybe not so much, but with everything else, yes.

i have a UNI, airbox snorkel and screen out, rejetted with a 135main, pilot screw 3-turns out.
the stock muffler was modded, z1'd. the FMF added more power than the z1 mod though.

i need some bark busters. where'd you buy your's?

I ordered my busters direct from Acerbis. I had won credit from an enduro. They are the supermoto version, great fit. I def want an exhaust but not anytime soon, need one for my X Challenge first :D I read up a bit on www.xt225.com and it seems as though the snorkel and exhaust mod really wake the bike up and allow you wheelie! Who would thought you could wheelie a XT :laughingr

thanks for the info, dude.
i'll have to check those acerbis busters out.

yeah, the snorkel and z1 mod did a great job for costing absolutely nothing.
also make sure you adjust your pilet screw, 3 turns out.
mine was at about 1.5 turns out and would take literally 10 minutes to warm it.
talk about a major pain in the ass.
i adjusted the screw and now it's acceptable at just a couple minutes.

i came home from work rather late, around 10pm and found a couple of packages outside the front door.

the rim has been finished!

also, the stock rear fender i ordered off ebay..

i can't wait to get the front tire on and mounted to the bike.
hopefully this weekend i can squeeze it in!

(sorry for the poor pics, i only have the blackberry right now and couldn't wait for the camera.)

update.

so i still have not been able to have the tire mounted due to time constraints with work.

i did, however, come home to a couple of packages from UPS..

procircuit exhaust, 57t rear sprocket, 14t countershaft sprocket.

the rear sprocket is something i'll surely never use (it's HUGE!), but the guy was selling both together and cost was the same as a new 14t.

tomorrow i'm hoping to have the tire mounted after work.
it's really my last change for awhile bcause i'll be on vacation thursday.

a better shot of the wheel with the camera..

update! yeeahhh boyeee!

i was able to skip out of work early and head up to the local shop and have the front tire mounted.
as soon as i got home, i went to the garage and put it back onto the bike.

STOKED!

the pro circuit pipe also made it's way onto the bike while i was out there.
between the FMF and the pro circuit, i really like the way the pro circuit sounds.
a little quieter and under control. the FMF would bark wildly and was a little too hardcore for me.

enough with words, pics!

now i'm just waiting on the mirror i ordered and the bark busters.

then, i'll have to come up with another idea for the rear fender.

i'll be heading back outside now to adjust the rear shock to compensate for the lowered front end and then i shall ride!

*edit*

BONUS UPDATE!!

i didn't see this on the kitchen counter when i came home because i was so excited about the wheel!

the mirror is really nice, very compact and works really well!
it's slightly convex, so it catches angles you wouldn't think it could based on its position on the bars.

it took about 10-15 minutes to adjust, finding a position where it wouldn't hit the tank unless i was full lock (or very close) and still give me a good look back.

i finally got the positioning where it needs to be and i can see behind the bike great, still adjust it slightly if i need to look a little more left, or more in towards my body, and it only touches the tank when i'm full lock.

thanks to advanced performance accessories for the mirror!
