Well it has been around 3000 miles since the engine work and the bike is still running great. It has proven to be a great improvement and I am glad that I did it.The only thing that bugs me is the fact that it used oil before the engine work and with a new piston, valve seals and guides it still uses oil.The exhaust stays nice and clean and no leaks but after a hard ass run through the mountains I will have to add a little oil. :headscrat I have a freind that has a Bandit and it has used a little oil since it was new.It now has 50000 miles on it and still runs great and the oil useage has stayed the same.As long as it keeps kicking ass I will just keep adding a little oil. :D I wish I could make a set of rearsets for it.Boots and footpegs do not last very long.I have shorten the pegs all I can.Today I was having to take my feet off the pegs and hold them back a little to keep them from dragging. It just does not get any better then this. ;)

My XRL just hit 40K miles (stock motor). It seems to only use oil when I am attempting to do my impression of riding fast in the twisties, with lots of compression braking.

My theory is that the oil is getting into the combustion chamber via valve guides or seals or both, only under decelleration / engine braking.

During my 300 mile a week commute, it doesn't use oil.

That is very interesting and most likely what is happening.I use a lot of engine braking riding on the street.Instead of running into the corner and using the brakes I will just let off the throttle.

Should I be checking mine often Michael? I know you know how I ride, so what would you reccommend?

Dion, I check my oil every day when I'm riding. For the last couple weeks I haven't ridden it because I have been commuting via bicycle & train, and I've sworn off twisties fun riding for the time being.

But when I was commuting every day, I checked the oil every day. Lubed the chain once a week, checked the valves at 1500 miles. Oil at 1500, filter every second oil change.
