Has anyone figured out away to make frame sliders for the XR400? I know that people have made them for their CRF's, but can it be done on an XR? post your thoughts :burnout:

There is no easy way. You have to drill through the left side of the rear axle.
The front is hollow.
Had a XR400, installed sliders and it takes about 5 min to drill through.
I guess I need to do that before I take my XR400 to Stockton for the first time,
so Richie how much (beer) for drilling?
and Harry how much for your home made sliders?

I don't think you can call them home made when they are made on an $80,000 machine :hammer:
I'll second that. Mine just came in the post today and I've got to say I'm seriously impressed.

The build quality is superb, and the machining is spot on.

No, I didn't get a discount/freebie, and no, I don't know Harry.

is Stockton open for play time on the long thanksgiving weekend?
like on Friday that I have off... if yes, then I got to buy your PROFESSIONALLY made sliders, and hire your services with your $80,000.00 machine to drill my axles... Richie needs a truck load of beer for the job :D

Sorry to revive this but...

So I know this is old, but I can't find info anywhere else and don't wanna damage anything. The handle on the side that needs to be drilled, does it come out once the hole is drilled? How is it held in? I know it doesn't serve much purpose except to help pull the axle out. Thanks y'all!

I fell like this old thread will have minimal useful input. If you could put up some pics of what you are working with maybe we could help. Not many XR400 sumo's out there to draw info from.

Axle pics

As you can see in the pics posted, there is a handle on one end of the axle, and that end is welded (the other side is hollow). Looking closer it looks as though the handle goes through the nut? I'm wondering if the handle will fall out during the drilling? I assume the weld just holds it in?
I don't want something unexpected to fall out when it's on the lathe tomorrow
