just got off the phone with Jeff from victoria and we've got the final details ready for the event:
First of all, for those who want to practice. There will be a practice session on Friday from 12-4:30 pm. Cost will be $20.
Schedule for race day (Saturday the 18th):
7am: Gates Open
7-8:30 am: Registration & Tech
8:30am: Riders Meeting
9am-11am Practice. 2 or 3 10 minute rounds per group
11:15 Heat Races begin
Now for the nity gritty: Insurance for both you and the track. The american riders are highly suggested to check thier medical coverage to see if it extends outside of the country. If not, you should purchase some travellers insurance (it's only $20). Now, the track insurance. This will be covered by the CMRC (the canadian version of the AMA). The bad news is that we will all have to join.
The good news is that the promoters are cutting entry fees to keep things under control for the riders (plus you get 20k of accidental death insurance-- don't use it or I'll kill ya ). The cost of joining is about $35 usd ($50 can).
Entry Fees for this race:
Gate fee: $20 Can/$12 USD
Pro Class: $70 Can/$55 USD
First Trophy class: $60 Can/$45 USD
Additional Trophy class: $40 Can/$35 USD
The website for the track (www.westernspeedway.com) has no details posted about the event, but does give a map of how to get to the track. The www site for the canadian club is www.victoriasupermoto.com. I will have all of this on our website tomorrow (www.supermotousa.net).
As for accomidations, I will be contacting the Sand Man hotel (on the edge of downtown victoria) about a group rate so you may want to give them a call. Also, for those interested in camping you can do so at the track.
As for getting over to the island, I would recommend making reservations on the twassesen to swartz bay ferry.
