never had a problem with the head light (except when i went over doing a stoppie)
for the back i got the lc4 racing tail piece and used a edge2 tail light much much better!

Oh... the headlamp is the 08 exc kit... never had any trouble out of the stock smc lamp (other than it looks 100 years old):headscrat As far as the tail goes, its a 05 so aftermarket just won't work out too good back there. Ive done the t/s mod and the lil leds seem to be holding up, the 1157 led is the prob... the diodes keep falling out of the assembly:headscrat

i'm putting on a '08 headlight on my '05 smc as well but will be running HID. i run the edge on the '05 it takes some hacking and fabrication to make it work. the watsen signals friggin amazing!!! and made in Canada :thumbup:
for a easy fix i would use two of the drc flex tail lights, one on the plate and one on the air box in front of the rear wheel. looks and works great!
