Hello everyone, I've snooped around here for quite sometime, but this is my first contribution. I picked up a 2004 TE 450 last weekend with the intention of converting it into a street legal supermoto. Before I picked it up, I had my insurance and the local registry run the VIN, make, and model to be sure that I can indeed register, license, and insure it for street use. All good, they say. I picked up the bike (obviously ripped around a bunch), and couldn't be more eager to ride! I just ordered the first few items for conversion on ebay (handlebar switches and a wiring harness). Though I'm currently living in BC, I'm actually still a legal resident of Alberta, which makes life far easier when trying to register an off-road vehicle for street legal usage. The downside being that I may have to drive back to AB to get it safety'd. Crossing my fingers that doesn't happen!

Hey guys, I'm sorry for the delay in my next posting my next part of the progression. I've been waiting (rather impatiently) for a few parts to arrive in the mail. I ended up having to ebay everything so far because of where I'm living and how difficult it is to get husky parts.

Anyways here are some pics of the latest. I ripped into the electrics of the bike pretty hardcore. I have a wiring harness coming, as well as left and right hand switches. The electronics are off of a 2007 TE 450, something I hoped would be a straight swap. Unfortunately, from looking more closely at the ebay pics, and comparing them to my 2004, it looks like the CDI box is different. I do have a plan though. According to the wiring diagrams I can find online, there is only one extra wire in the 2007 CDI box, which leads to the speedometer (something my bike doesn't have). I would guess that it's for a tach, since it does come from the CDI, but I have no idea really. Aside from that, after tracing all the wires, the two different years have all the same circuitry. Since I don't have any molex connectors of the type used, I'll probably have to get out the soldering iron, something I swore I'd never do again after building an entire wiring harness from scratch for an '86 FZ600 about a year ago. Please let me know if you have any clever ideas!! Thank you and enjoy!

Yahoooooo! The first bits have arrived. I spent a few hours yesterday and today putting the new-used wiring harness in place. Unfortunately, the seller on ebay wasn't too up front on the condition of the harness (he'd used some dodgy crimp connectors and butt connectors with incorrect gauge wire to modify it to fit different lights by the looks of it). I did afterall have to trace out each of the wires from the CDI and splice on the old molex connector to fit my current CDI box. Why, oh why can't these companies just keep a simple connector the same from one year to another. Amazingly, it works great. I also mounted up my handlebar switches and wired those in. Everything seems to work, which is cool. Now I need to buy the signals, horn, a new headlight and taillight with two filaments. I'm thinking of LED everything to reduce electrical load on my stator since I don't know how long it'll last. Also need to get sensors for switches for my brake lights. Pictures below, more updates coming soon!
