Does anyone have any recommendations on this? I have a CRF250x all set up and ready to go except for Fork Guards. I dont want to trim the stock ones since i will still use this for offroad but am trying to avoid paying more money to buy some fork guards. Is it really necesarry to have them if you are just riding on the street. Not racing or anything mostly just 8 miles to and from work. Thanks

Personally, I wouldn't do it...

Cough up the few bucks to save yourself from having to replace a fork tube after one stray little rock puts a ding in it...

It'll also keep you from having to constantly replace fork seals by keeping grit off of the tube.

A lot of our roads are chip and seal, or chat or whatever it's called in your area. My fork legs wouldn't last a week without the guards on there without getting damaged.

Even if you just ride on the street, bugs and crap
will still dirty up your fork tubes and play havoc on
your fork seals.
