hey there, I live in brooklyn NY, and use to ride off road over sea.
since I moved here, 5 years ago, I didn't ride.
I'm into getting myself a fun, exciting street legal motard.
for the last 3 days I'm reserching the web. almost got my self a drz.
now I'm looking into KTM. I looked into 625 smc and decide it too heavy, and cumbersome looking. I think that a converted 450 exc (wich seems identicle to the 450 smc) will cut it for me. My resoning is the electric system and starter that is missing on the SMC. now it's eithr buying a new exc than modify it, or get a one that is allready built.
if any of you good people have an advise, fact, experience or whatever that can help me, I will be grateful. I'm going to invest a lot and hope not to be disappointed.
thanks,
Eddie

Eddie,

Buy a bike pre-built and pre-titled. NY has strick laws in affect about off-road bikes being converted. Up until about 2000 you were able to convert and off-road bike, but not now. If its a street legal dualsport, than go ahead knock yourself out, but not if its an off-road only bike.

I converted my DR650 to a Motard, and its a blast. I live out on LI. There's a few of us around these parts. Conneticut seems to have a lot of converted titled bikes. Check: carbuyersmarket.com there is usually a few already converted to street off-road bikes. you'd just have to slap some East Coast Wheels on them and be off!!!!!

Good luck to you!
