road-racing

If this is the wrong forum for the question, someone re-direct me.....

I'm looking for information on building a SM for road-racing. Tracks like CMP, RRR, Road Atl, Barber, Tally, etc. I realize this isn't the ideal application for a motard, but I've been looking for something I could easily convert to street duty while maintaining my desire to race.

What I'm interested in is the Ideal bike for this purpose. Something light, fast, easy to upgrade, and parts availability. Cost relativity to other bikes, etc.

Doesn't have to be exotic, in fact I prefer simple & fast, while being strong enough to haul my fat a$$ around.

Thanks folks.
P.S. Any gearing info, suspension setup tips etc are certainly welcomed.

The problem of racing something like a CR/KX/RM/YZ 450 on big track is going to be the flogging at or near redline most of the time. These motors were not made to do that and last. Something like a big KTM or even the SXV550 would be a better choice but then parts come into play.
Well there goes the SMJ property values :D

Buck hit ducnut748 up on WERA. He'll give you all the SXV skinny you need.

Couple of questions:

1. How the hell you been Stef?
2. Is Aaron still racing apes? I thought he went off to stock cars?
i've seen 690 smc's prepped for road race. there's one on this site somewhere.
Paul Duvall (paab on here I think) has a rigged 690smc. I see him on my local riders board quite a bit, and although I don't know him, it seems he's got the thing pretty dialed.

I race a 560 smr at loudon...but it's definitely a slower, more motard friendly track. No joke: I'm scared to take the thing elsewhere, and blow it up...I don't even wind it up down the straight in practice or any tds.

Having never really been any other place, you might be ok to run ulsb or something at any of those other tracks, and use crazy gearing to keep the thing in check, and still be ok against some of the smaller machines, but really, not an sv650 or something like that. (I hear sv's run ulsb in other parts, I can't confirm though)

1) You know me. Money, hoes, and clothes.

2) I think he's out of it now but he's got all kinds of knowledge on the subject.
