I'm considering an aftermarket exhaust for my WRX but notice that most recommend re-packing every ?? hours... Do you guys actually do this? Is it a PITA?

One of the primary reasons I went with the WRX was low maintenance, and this re-packing thing, combine with a potentially too loud exhaust, might not be worth the extra HP or two.

I repack my RC51 2:1 Jardine when I can 'knock' on the can and get an empty echo at 1/3 the way up the pipe from inlet cap.

Drill out the stock steel inlet rivets the first time and replace them with alum. rivets (and rivet washers if necc.) and it's easy livin after that. You really only need to drill-apart an exhaust can at one end, not both (or at least should only need to cannibalize one end of it).

Takes me twenty minutes to repack my '51 at this point. The Akra's on my SMC don't even have enough room between the inner-pipe and the outer housing to even _have_ packing in them in the first place - least of all even make it worth repacking....
