Just wanted to get some info out for this years Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. They added a Supermoto class this year and let me tell you, It is one cool event! The course is half asphalt and half hard packed dirt. 156 turns in 12.5 miles. It really is the ultimate supermoto event. I don't care if you race professionally, just for fun, or not at all...this event is a chance of a lifetime. It is the second oldest race in U.S. history right behind the Indy 500. There is television coverage, radio, and print! It is just a great event. They have a class for everyone. 250cc, 500cc, 750cc, Vintage, and now SUPERMOTO! The supermoto class is a 450cc class only with 17" wheels! But don't worry if you have a different bike....the other classes work perfect. Last year the 750cc class was won by a 525 KTM supermoto bike. I can't even explain how much fun this event is. It is worth your while. email me at [email protected] or check it out at www.ppihc.com

It is a beautiful place and fun for the family!

that looks like an incredibly exciting event. I'm interested but something's telling my my skill level isn't up to par for an event like that. not to mention my lung capacity at those elevations. If i remember correctly, you ran it last year. How did you train for the elevation and also for getting the bike to run right way up there? I'm thinking about it though.

It is only a 12 1/2 - 16 min. race. The elevation doen't really bother you much during the race. There are lots of turns, but also some resting points with straights!

To get the bike to run properly, I use a altitude compensator. They use them for snowmobiles. I have the contact info.....Holtzman engineering. You basically jet your bike for the 9500 ft elevation at the starting line then the compensator adjusts the jetting as you go up. It works pretty good.

What's their consideration for acceptable race experience? I have three years of road racing at WSMC and a few motard races with STTARS, plus several years of dirt track racing when I was younger but never raced anything above club racing at any type of racing. Do they pretty much look for some type of expert racing license to show that I have race experience or are they looking for pro level experience?

That motard class sounds tempting...and entry is cheaper then I thought it would be!...now to just figure out travel costs from San Diego to there...damn gas prices and that big arse Dodge truck of mine....

Hey Josh..... Your race experience will not be a problem. Exactly what you have listed there would be sufficient.

The Supermoto class is going to be cool. I'm stoked they made it a part of the program.

Travel.....If we get enough guys going from So. Cal we can put one big trailer together for everyone. It is an awsome race and one that should not be missed!!!!

Wow!! Starts at over 9,000ft above sunny San Diego's beaches? Damn, I just may do this! Do you have to re-gear your bike, I'm guessing? I actually pre-broke in my motor of the new bike on Procter Valley Rd. Around a 5 mile dirt road connecting Chula Vista and Jamul here in San Diego. Sounds like a good practice ground (but I got kicked out by a park ranger). I'll give it some serious consideration.

Dude, Pike's Peak is outside Colorado Springs, CO. I'm not too sure about racing up that thing, but I drove it the tourist method. What a beautiful drive!! I would love to go visit again, and watch the races while there. Anybody that can make it, should go to visit this place.

Provided that I don't have to foreclose the farm after the Stateline race, I have decided that I am doing this race. I was on the fence between the Nevada 1000 or the Pikes Peak race.... I have already done the 1000, but need to put Pikes Peak in my memory bank!!

Thanks Gary!

sounds hairy on a supermoto. wouldnt ya get much quicker times on a enduro bike anyway?

No.....the supermoto bike and tires are the way to go. Last year I tested back to back rains with 17" vs. 19" dirttrack tires. They were the same. But I am a supermoto rider so I just used the 17"s. The road is half asphalt (5-6 miles) and half dirt. The dirt gets hard`packed so knobby tires just don't work as well, but there are quite a few guys that ride with DOT knobbys.

The race kicks ass.....I'm serious......don't miss it!

Going to spectate this year , really want to try this! Mingus mountain in prescott az , 158 turns in 12 miles , all asphault. I ride an xr 650 r sumo over the hill whenever the weather permits. I know its not quite the same , but a blast just the same. Hope to race the peak soon , 2013 if possible, in the middle of a cr 500 sumo build just for the pikes peak hill climb.:thumbup:
