ride a bicycle with skinny road tires, then put some knobby mountain bike tires on it. See which pair you go faster on. when youre on two wheels, tires make a huge difference.

I just put Pirelli M21's on my 2008 WR250X.
The day I pulled in to have my tires swapped out, I went 106 with some whomp left over.
AS soon as I drove off the lot after my tires were installed, I checked my top speed...
85 MPH????

Check your speed with a GPS. You'll find that your speedo is off due to the taller tires as people above suggested.

Damn you for reminding me of those... I'm so getting one!Get the Hot Wheels radar gun for about $30 bucks at WalMart. It goes all the way up to 100mph and is super accurate.

Speedo is not off. I checked with GPS. My top speed just got fcked in the a$$. Thats all.

MPG got fcked too. Dropped from 81 MPG to 51 MPG on the same trip.
Handling off road is TEN TIMES BETTER though. Rides like a dirt bike.
Its a heavy compromise but I got what I wanted.
If there are any suggestions for getting AT LEAST my mpg better with the same tires please share.

If you're saying you have a stock speedometer that's showing 106mph AND that a gps is showing the exact same number....you're just not telling the truth. Factory speedo is off 7.7%, and any changes to gearing or tires throw it off more.

If you were getting 81 mpg you were riding it like a grandmother going to church on Sunday too. Most people that actually ride the thing get somewhere in the 45 to 60 mpg range on a good day, and those people never see anything over 100mph with corrected speedometers or gps verification.
Now maybe if you weigh about 65 pounds, were drafting behind a 18-wheeler on the autobahn for 20 miles straight, going downhill, with a 30 mph tailwind, and on tires pumped up to about 100psi with a turbo kit installed you could manage 106mph....but even then I'd be skeptical.
Please post some pictures of your 106mph, 81 mpg capable wr250x, and list your mods.
