Hi guys,

I'm very new to motorcycles.

I've been seeing a lot of forums online about different kinds of bikes from cruisers, sportsbikes to motards. And the motards are the ones that really get's me interested in motorcycling.

Just a question, how can you consider a bike to be a motard. Is it restricted only to trail/dirt bikes with street tires or other bikes will do(mopeds and scooters with extended suspension and wide slick tires)? I keep on searching the net for the exact definition but no results were found. Hoping to learn more from this site. Thanks.

A motard is basically a modified dirt bike (motocross or trail bike). Often times "motard" is referring to a street legal variant of the bike while "supermoto" is more of a race focused bike. Here is a good link that explains it (history and bikes) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supermoto

Supermoto bikes are a blast - pretty much the most fun you can have on motorcyles. Welcome to the forum
