I have a plated WRF426 that I have raced in sportsman trim, but I put knobbies back on it. I have a Husaberg with 17's that I will be using for my SM racer once I get it all prepped and back together. :infrandom

I actually haven't sold it yet. I have someone who wanted to buy it whole, and was saving his allowance to buy it, but he's taking too long. I may just part it out.

It's an overbore 400, up to 444cc. I'm sure the top is all good, but there is a big hole in the bottom of the engine. :headshake Maybe somebody will take it all off my hands.

I have to resize my pics to upload..........

Just out of curiosity, what do you Yamaha guys recommend as far as suspension. Leave it stock, cut it a couple inches, or cut it more? I just bought a 2000 YZ426F with brand new YZ450F suspension components on it. (Guy had the 426 set up for SM then got a 450 and just swapped the stuff from the 426 to the 450 and vice versa) So I have new 450 forks etc. I have heard to leave it stock. Some of the local fast guys run theirs cut up to 5". What is the hot set-up? I would hate to cut it and then find that stock length works better. I will probably end up running it stock for a while and see how it works and then cut it 1.5" to 2" over winter and try that. There are always guys with various length suspension who will let me ride their bikes so I can try different things out.

Being here in the Midwest, we aren't the first to know what is hot, if you know what I mean. Any advice would be appreciated. I am coming off of about 15 years of pure roadracing background on two stroke GP bikes, so this jumping and backing the bike in is new and definitely different to me. Hopefully my learning curve will be pretty steep at first. I hate to go back to being the slow guy for too long.

Well, Mr. Zero, we seem to have similar background. I've roadraced all over for about 12 years, and now I want to jump into supermoto.

AFA the suspension, my older bike I had done by Factory Connection. I never jumped it, but the work they did made the action feel very familiar. They cut the travel 1.5"

The new 450 I bought setup, and they had PS2 rework both ends, including lowering 1 3/8". I will give that a try this weekend.

Maybe yes , maybe no, but you are closer to MX tech and he knows moto

I had pro circuit do mine, have not tried it yet, I couldn't begin to figure out all they did, all I know they put 48's in and KYB works kit and the list goes on, also they wrote on the ticket " A rider treatment ", don't know why, I havn't been a A rider for 30 yrs

I probably have it better than I think. One of the guys who has ben coming to our track days has been around Dirt-track for years and has reciently gotten his rider into Supermoto. They scored a 16th in the 450 class at Copper Mt. He does all his suspension work in-house, and seems to really know his stuff. I think he will be helping me with my suspension needs. In the power department, I have probably one of the fore-most authorities on Yamaha power. Tony Tice has ben a Yamaha mechanic for years and until a couple years ago worked at the factory in WI. He now works for Hot Cams in DesMoines IA. He has developed cams which have been run in many of the top-name four-stroke riders bikes. He Has a YSR with a YZ426 motor in it that he has probably tried every conceivable combination of cam timing, piston rod combo and jetting known to man. He had his little monster making 62hp at the tire on one occasion. He has already given me many tips on what stuff to buy to get the power end of my 426 up to todays standard.

I plan to get the suspension cut and revalved to whatever Rick at RJ Performance in Ottumwa, IA recommends. Rick has been around suspension for many years and really knows his stuff.

I can't wait to try all the stuff out. Our local track is putting in a dirt section before our next track day. It will be a far cry from riding a RS125 around the track, but I appreciate the challange.

Thanks for the inputs

I don't think they cut anything, except maybe the fork springs.
I just got my WR450 suspension back from Lindemann Engineering.
I think they put 3" long tubes on the damping rods to limit travel, so instead of 11.8" of travel, I now have 8.8". They returned the original springs, so if I want to go back to a dirt setup, I guess I could just remove the spacer tubes and put the stock springs back in.
Similar rework on the shock, but only lowered 1-1/2".
I can't wait to try it out. Still waiting on my wheels.

Jim,

I think for moto you go with a super stiff setup so they would set it up like an off road "A" rider.

The supension on my WR400 was set up for Bundy who as you know is a 250+ pound "A" rider and it has been working great for my 195+ pound ass on the track.

When's that bike gonna be done?????

Thankfully I can finally post here ... I picked up Ducky Fresh's plated WR400 yesterday. What a blast that thing is to ride, and I think I've almost got the starting trick down.

I'm coming into motard from a decade of sportbikes, and racing Formula II on a Honda RS250, so this will be a big change. The asphalt sections I think will come easier as the only dirtbike experience I have is riding a KX500 a few times, mostly at Pismo Beach. Time to see how those M1s handle at the local dirt park, I guess.

Registration help...

I need help getting my 00 YZF426 registered. There are a few states I may be able to do this in: NY, CT ot RI. The problem is that on the title it says "for off-highway use", I think this is going to be a problem. Any thoughts or suggestions?
