I have read the owners manual on how to adjust the chain on the Husky and that just isn't practical for a one man shop. (i.e. check the chain tension with the bike weighted. With the swingarm parallel from the pivot to the center of the axle)

I know the rule of thumb on a street bike is 25 to 30mm. There isn't that much opportunity on my Husky SM450. I also realize that looser is better than too tight to some extent. So what are you all running and how are you checking it?

I put three fingers on top of the swingarm acouple inches infront of the tire......My personal pref. is alittle bit on the loose side, seems most of the guys in our series seem about the same

I usually sit on the bike, lean it to the right (maybe left with the Husky?) and take my left foot and push the chain with my toe. Not rocket science, but better than checking it static.

I ride with mine vary loose.....just a enough so it isnt touching the swingarm while static........I dont even use a rear chain guide and it has yet to give issue after hundreds and hundreds of miles

I just find that with all the travel and hard surfaces incountered on a tard
That a loose chain is better then a bent countershaft or broken chain

I also ride mine pretty loose. Try this: set your chain like a street bike setup (25-30mm of travel). Now SIT on the bike and let the suspension drop, then check the chain tension. You will see that the chain tightens WAY up. I figured with the suspension travel of the motard, a tight chain will put a ton of stretching force on it, as well as not allow the suspension to travel and do it's thing.

Lean over your bike with you chest over the rear of the seat. Grab the swingarm and pull the bike down on its supsension until you have the swingarm level and the chain at its tightest (any further and the chain goes looser again)............from this point make sure you have the right tension and you'll be fine.
