Looks like Buell is going to introduce some kind of street motard. The website video shows a rider on both pavement and dirt roads. Probably along the lines of the new KTM. Go to:

Single cylinder?RedRooster said:Sounds pretty stout, 92hp/70ft.lbs. in a 385lb machine.
It doesn't look too bad.
But underneath its still a good ol belt-driven Buell.oo:

That motor is way too heavy to be used for something like a supermotard.AR625SMC said:Good use for a VRod motor...
I agree. Buell isn't know for building light bikes. Plus some of the "old school" Buell riders have been crying for a larger bike since the XB series came out.Moonman said:It will be a big dualsport/adventure bike.
I spoke with Eric a few months ago at the demo ride here in GA. When posed "Why don't you use the Vrod motor?" he said he'd been asked that question too many times to count. The Vrod motor isn't compact enough to fit it in a sharp-handling chassis. The cylinders are spaced waaaaaaay too wide to fit the whole shebang between the wheels of a proper sportbike and keep the CG low.AR625SMC said:Good use for a VRod motor...
Thats not quite true, I believe teh XB9s are pretty light weight. I race Harleys on a weekly basis. I believe the motors are too tempermental to use in a reliable motard application. And dont even consider the Blast...it could easily be rebaged the POS. Now if Erik Buell could talk HD into designing his own, self built motor for a Motard application, we would pry have one bad streetbike. Look what he has done with a 100 year old design..imagine what we would get with his ability applied to modern day thumper....SuperMoto7 said:I agree. Buell isn't know for building light bikes. Yep! Just give the man the opportunity and he'll suprise us all!!! Don't know if I buy the excuse on the VROD. They were able to get a similar motor into the VR1000 superbike...podiumed at mid-ohio...not bad!AaronRM said:Thats not quite true, I believe teh XB9s are pretty light weight. act. the ducati and tl are 90 degree motors, but I believe that the Aprilia 1000 is a 60 degree.AaronRM said:Ducatis are 60 degree, as is the TL1000, Ducs have no problem winning roadracing championships. I look at it this way..if Erik can pull take a 70hp 1200cc evo sportster, do a few of his mods, and have a reliable 90hp street machine..imigine what he could do with say..a 4 valve, DOHC, FI single cylinder...now that would be a REAL BLAST!
Look at the angle in which the gearbox comes off the Vrod motor. Also, measure a TL or Duc motor coutershaft to opposite cylinder head, then do the same with the Vrod, then the same with the standard XB motors. You'll be surprised how physically huge the Vrod motor is.AaronRM said:Dang, i was close lol. But 90 is even more..explain that Mr. Buell?
