LED lights

I'm remodeling the CRF over the winter and want to change the turn signal set-up I have now. I've been looking at these things but don't know if they'll be bright enough to keep me outta trouble with the law or keep the idiot cages from trying to take me out. Anybody seen these things in action before? Safety is an issue with me, but DOT legality is not.

Opinions, reports, reviews?

360 on the fork tube is pretty cool for the front. pretty cool!
...

Wow, thats exactly what I'm lookin for...LED brake lights and turn signals, to hell with those ulgy bulb type brake/signal lights!!
Crap... so much my being unique ;)
Nice the fork turn signals are a good idea. There's nothing worse than seeing shit stick out off your bike.....Unless it's your foot. :laughingr
LEDs definitely are bright enough. Much brighter than a indandescent. I have mini LED pods for rear turn signals with 6 small leds per, and they are bright as heck, esp at night!
I tried the LED in a Garage with no lights on and the only difference I could see was the directional light of the LED vs the multi directional light of the std buld. The LED did not seem brighter though. The real question is will is provide more safety in the Very bright summer sunlight.

Mister Rooster!
How's the bike coming? I've sorted out some issues with insurance that would have been a bit of a hindrance to my riding this summer - i still will only be able to ride the occasional day after making a few deals with our wonderful insurance corporation, and my insurance surcharge's dropping from 1050% down to 400%! and it'll be zero as of aug 28/05 if i don't make any claims before then... (i've been riding my mini bike to get around for the last little while since its too small a displacement to get punished). i'll be rocking the day permits anyway whenever i need my motard fix, although i'm going to be going to school this summer.

on the plus side, i've got four buddies building up their bikes this winter, so that's 4 more riders to savage around with, and two live in richmond (insert your smile here).

hope your lighting turns out. i'm playing with some graphics right now trying to sort out what i'm going to do, but for now this is what she looks like. I'm planning on adding a touch of red here and there soon as well.

take it easy...

I got more surrey jokes then richmond jokes !! Bike looks good !!
Hey there Jonny Motard! I guess the law finally caught up with with huh? Man your insurance situation sounds pretty bleak, you'll have to tell me the story one day soon.

Bike's coming along good. I'm adding a ton of carbon fiber parts, powder coating the swingarm and subframe black. With it torn down this far I may just pull the motor and get the wide ratio kit stuffed in it. With the little back sprocket and big front one she pulls too quick off the line for tight traffic, but it's a dream on the highway. With the wide ratio tranny I should be able to get the best of both worlds.

Having a custom Carbon headlight bucket made and some custom graphics that are mostly a factory honda rip-off done with the smaller supermoto style number plate areas. Gonna be all black except for the frame and the rad shrouds. I wanted to keep some color on it. I like the looks of your graphics... very unique!

I'm gonna hit as many track days at Boundary Bay as I can this year, but if you're ever up for a trip to the island on a Wednesday night let me know. My truck holds two bikes no problem, unless you wanted to ride over?

Damn carbon and powdercoating.... Sounds like my rolling money pit of a motard... I can't wait to see it.

I was thinking that when the 450X comes out, it won't be long before our bikes could (assuming they fit) have some X parts on it; like the 450X WR tranny and electric start! I'm just thinking that the 450x WR tranny could be cheaper than the baja one. i kind of like having to kick the bike over just to prove its motocross heritage though.

i'm thinking about adding a key, and i was thinking that a good place to mount the tumbler could be the airbox area. i'm still holding off on getting a kickstand though...

wednesday nights are what i'm shooting for, well, i plan on doing some of them. i hear they have a new improved (more jumps) dirt section for this year, and i'm from vic.

oh- to whomever asked, yes that's the acerbis LED tail/running light combo. it works pretty good and is fairly bright, even in the day; i use a KTM hydralic brake switch off the front brake to run it. i'm going to add some amber LEDs around there somewhere over the next month or so to get some rear turn signals integrated along in there, but there's not a lot of extra room.

I'm not holding my breath on the X parts fitting right. I'm sure there's different cases for the electric start, and doesn't the '05 X use the new 450 frame similar to the 250?

I'm looking close at my airbox area too. I'd love to build a custom side mount airbox like the KTM's that would give me the other side of the shock to mount a lot of the electrics into, if not all of them. It'd be right above the pipe on that side though, so I don't know how the heat would affect it. Maybe a full blown carbon sub-frame with proper mounts for all the electrics is in order, but I think that would get more than a little pricey. Sure would be trick though.
Hey do you have any idea where to buy some high end connectors similar to those used in real wiring harnesses? those big white plastic square ones? It sure would be nice to have one at the headtube, and one at the tail (i revert the bike to stock plastics for the dirt) for ease of conversion. i'd like to rebuild my wiring harness before i ride it again, and improve a couple of connections.

there is a bit of space under the tank in the shock area on the right where things like flasher relays and voltage regulators can be attached
You know I've had a hell of a time finding a source for those connections. I'm gonna just head to an auto wreckers and see what a pair of wire cutters cant find me. I may ask at a car-stereo installation place first. I'll bet they can put me onto a better supplier than I've found through google.

I want to replace the white plastic versions I have now. It's not even close to waterproof and is a serious pain in the ass to put back together once it's been taken apart. The little brass connectors get angled over and don't find their holes right. Took me 45 minutes or so to get the damn thing connected after the last time I took it apart. There HAS to be a better way.

Hopefully, if I can find the right mounting spots for this stuff I can have very few connections that ever need taking apart so it won't be an issue. Those spots are hard to find, I think you must be pulling my leg on the under the tank spot. What year is yours again? Because I don't see any extra room down there at all.

I'd sure like to be able to drill a couple of holes in the frame and hide the wires nicely, but I'm too much of a chickensh!t to do it in case the frame cracks. Ever heard about anyone doing that before on the CRF's? I wonder how much it weakens the frame?

Hey guys, check these guys out. We use them for odd things we can't find elsewhere. Our company is in Canada, we usually recieve our order the next day.

Rooster, you can drill into the frame with no worries, just as long as you're not drilling a HUGE (3"+) hole. A hole big enough to run wiring through won't present a problem. You will want to put some rubber grommets in the hole to protect the wiring.
Nope, that isn't what i'm looking for, however...

I posted this question on thumpertalk and got this:

Cool, thanks.
Yeah...real nice bike.

And thank for the info on the led's just what I needed.
