I just started a new KX500 engine build that will be something very special ..
It will likely eventually end up in my KX500SM but first things first..
Carb goodies..

The bolt was a bit long....

Well... After a few years I blew my top end...
Sometimes my experiments don't work out too well.
So I can scratch that last one off the list.... :Funny:

The next top end will be a little bigger and hopefully I'll have my custom drum valves ready in time to install... :hmmm:

Well.... I've been working so hard on my new build I haven't had much time to build the new top end...
I have started the port work and had the cylinder pre-bored for a 88 mm but it's been very sparse otherwise..

Here is a pic of my current project...

It's a 2016 KTM 250 SXF chassis with a electric start KX500 engine...
This will be in a bike build off against a identical chassis but the other builder is using a CR500 engine.
Should be interesting

Good Lawd, that's some bike porn right there, lol. I LOVE that pipe dude! I may have to contact them to build one for me. I've alos seen those electric start modules for the CR500. Curious how that works out for you. I'll really be interested to see how this build-off goes. Where can we follow it.....here?

Good luck! You've got some fun ahead of you!

what are the notches in the crank for ??
The grooves are a old idea that has had little success.
There are many different names for it but "Turbo crank" seems to be the most common.
The idea was to help direct the charge up the transfers to gain more power.
What typically happened was they gained a small bit of lower and but lost a lot off the top.
The guy who has the patent on it now says that his design does more then direct the charge... It is also suppose to help precompress the charge and then direct it up the transfers.
Will it work?
We will see.
We are doing a 98 KX250 and getting it dyno'd before and after the crank and case mods are made.
I will make it known what the findings are once done..

Yes, crank stuffing on the smaller bikes works great!
But for whatever reason the KX500 hates to be stuffed..
It's one of the most time consuming, expensive way, to loose HP

I have a completed pic around somewhere but I can't find it right now :headscrat

Ok, after thousands of dyno runs and my current Land Speed project, It's time for the Street Tard to get some updates. There is always more to learn o_O
