KTM690SMC gear shifter replacement

Hi all,

My '10 KTM690SMC rear end slipped out under me due to being to far forward and giving the throttle a little too much in a turn. My gear shifter pedal broke. The portion which holds the rubber spring loaded portion broke and had to use electrical tape to make the rubber shifter in a 90 degree so my foot could use it to shift. Attached should be a pic which shows it bent forward.

I am looking for a replacement, but Hammerhead nor Warp 9 makes it for the KTM 690 SMC. I also checked KTM Twins, Cycle Hut, etc but cannot find a replacement. Do you all have any suggestions to an aftermarket or stock brand and store where I can buy it? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Greg

I think Greguw is right, the shifter arm must be the weak point as to not bend the splined shaft. If you look above in the SMC pic thread near page 17 or 18, there are some pics of nice knurled orange tips that may be able to be fixed to your stock o.e.m. lever, if your lever is not mangled. I think any KTM tip may work but double check that before ordering anything.

LethPhaos, I just called the KTM dealer and they said it'll take a couple weeks for receipt of lever. Plus it costs $83 and thought for the same price the aftermarket levers were better. I will take THOR450's advice and check out KTM pics and if that cannot solve my problem, will fork out the dosh. Thank you, Greg

How high does that protective cover go? Look what happened on mine, REAL close to going through the case cover!
Needless to say I've been looking for a shift lever too. Was able to heat and bend back to near original shape but it feels a little off. Stock one just too much $$$

I don't know. I have no other KTM and my local dealer is not so competent in thinking outside the box. If they don't see an option that specifically states "fits 08-11 KTM 690 SMC" then they are not going to help me. I also don't have money to burn and can't just order something in hopes that it will work out.

I do though have the same thoughts as to the arm off another bike fitting the shaft just fine, but its the bend and dimensions that I wonder about being compatible and putting the arm in the right place for ergonomics.

Dakine; search ebay under "ktm 690 gear shift lever" and there is one there right now for $22. plus shipping. It says it from a ktm 690 smc prestige, whatever that is but there is a part number to compare. Might be worth a look..

THOR450, I purchased that exact one you were referring to. Appreciate you checking and assisting! It's shipping from the UK. Half the price of a new one. My pricing was from a Japan KTM dealer so it might be more expensive than stateside. I think it will fit. For now, just gotta use the electrical tape to hold it in place. Going on a weekend ride with a KTM SMR and new Duke, so will just wait for the new used lever. I checked and rechecked and cannot find anyone who sells a gear shift lever. I can locate every other part, except for that darn part.

THIS FORUM IS THE BEST!!! I THANK EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU. RIDE HARD, RIDE SAFE!
