Hello,
I have some mods on my Dr650: J&E HC Piston, 520 Chain conversion, Staintune full exhaust system
and it's Jetted properly. Soon i will have a good amount of money to either fix up my Dr650 or get a more
powerful bike. A KTM would be the second alternitive for me but i have concerns:
My Questions:
What Mods would make my Dr650 The equal of the KTM ? (if possible?)
How reliable is a KTM ?
Do parts and service cost more with a KTM ?
Yeah the KTM will have more power(Apx. 18 hp) how much comfort would i be sacrificing ?

Knowledge is Power ! Please help !!

The lc4 motors are known to be reliable. I wouldn't put the dr much higher in the list than those.

Parts and service depend on proximity of dealers. Ktm parts, as a whole I would think be a little more pricey, but not enough to make that much of a difference like a ducati or something.

I rode crash279's 625 with a gel seat, and It felt like a couch.

You'd have to do ALOT to the dr to get it on level playing field. USD forks, pumper carb, brakes, probably some head work and a few more cc's

I can't remember who had it, but there was a dr725 on here awhile back..

WRstevex,
I allready have a USD Fork from a CRF250R It's Powder Coated Black
and my front rotor is a EBC-320mm contour rotor> That is why i call it a
supermoto. I spent some time looking into the KTM idea and it doesn't seem
like the best plan. KTM's do require more frequent serve and i don't have a
KTM dealer close by. So my Financial Aid money will be spent on New Electrical
aswell as a 725 bore with Pumper carbs. I'm not power madd, i just want great
torx and HWY speeds. For a more all around bike.

I wouldn't have felt right on a Orange machine. My Black on Black DR suites me.
Thanks for your thoughts

The lc4's need the opposite of frequent maintenance.

I didn't know exactly what all your dr had. But the katoom is a much more modern bike compared to the 80's tech dr.

If you're wanting to throw money at it, I'd look at a good pumper carb. Something like a fcr-42 or something. Really let that puppy breathe.
