Damn, post a lot in the kawasaki section, anyways, im changing my oil for the first time on my klx tomorrow, just want to double check, make sure my process is correct.

1.] Warm the bike up.
2.] Unscrew the drain plug, which is under the shifter lever.
3.]Let the oil drain.
4.] Unscrew the 2 bolts on the oil filter, remove cover.
5.] Remove oil filter.
6.] Place new oil filter in. [is there a front and back?]
7.] Put some oil around oil filter center hole
8.] Replace and retighten oil filter cover
9.] Retighten oil drain plug at 15nm of torque.
10.] Remove black filler cap, on top left of the crank case.
11.]fill with mobil 1 10w-40 4t motor oil, to top line on oil fill window
12.] Check for leaks

done

Thanks

The oil filter goes in a certain way. Make sure you note which end is toward the engine.

There is a spring behind it that keeps pressure on it.

It is hard to keep it in place while replacing the filter unless you use a dab of grease or bend the bottom loop on the spring to hold it in there.
Fill the oil to the top line, run the bike and check it again with it level. It may need a little more. Mine takes 1 1/4 quarts with out the filter change.

Be gentle on the filter bolts or use a torque wrench.

do you know what specs i should enter for the torque wrench?
job "done"

anyone know where i can get new drain plug?
Just did my first oil change at 602 miles. Wow the oil came out looking pretty rough. I wouldn't have waited this long if I had known. Looked like the tranny oil that comes out of my CR250! Anyways the procedure is very straight forward. I used a dab of engine assembly grease to hold the spring to the backside of the filter, worked perfect. Take care to put the cover for the oil filter on the correct, it seems you could have it 180 degrees off and the oil passages in the cover not line up, that probably wouldn't be good. I filled the bike up to the top line on the inspection window and took her for a 6 mile loop and came back, waited a few minutes and rechecked and add a small bit. Took 1.6 qaurts total.
hmmm, my question is when i filled it with clean oil, the oil was clean in the window, and when i came back from my around the block loop, it was the color of the oil i just took out, and i took out 1.5 quarts? Is this normal to have black oil pretty fast again?

Yep, Yep, and Yes.

Change it more often and it will not be as dark. You can't get ALL the old oil out.

It works for me.

Can some one else confirm?

Its the service manual. Costs $65.00 on line. FREE if the link works.

David
Yes your link works but the link on the page that you link to does not (for me anyway).

The link you provided to the thread works:

http://www.kawasakiforums.com/forum/klx-250s-71/2009-manual-32247/

This link in the thread does not work:

You are correct, the link on the page does not take you to the manual.

Sorry, Drop the poster Deej a note. He may fix it.
