Jumping down into 4rd

I have 500 kmh on my 09 DRZ400sm and as i go threw the gears up to 5th and powering up it jumps down to 4th all on its own:headscrat My foot is no where near the shifter. Anyone ever have this happen?
I would blow it off as my fault by not clicking it in but thats not the case here. It has done this several times.

The same thing happens on my 250x every now and again. I think it's 4th-5th. May be 5-6. Only happens when I wring it out and grab gears fast.
that crap happens on my WR 400 sometimes....really pisses me off, I was thinking that the detent spring may be knackered, not applying enough pressure onto that little shift-cam-thingy.
mine does the same. 08 with about 4500 on it
Mine too, but only when I click through the gears really quick. If I give it a good hard pull for each shift it doesn't seem to do it.
mine does it to, but i want to say it is just a weak shift point, if bag it into every gear it works great if i race through them it pops out.. but every since i stuck with a good solid up shift havent had the problem since..
mine does it periodically. feels different going from 4th-5th than any other gear. it's no fun when ur at full lean on a high speed corner and it decides to downshift :headscrat

Yup, good way to smack your nuts on the gas tank cap.

Mine does it as well. '07 with 2,200 miles.
Same story here... Ive had it pop out of 3rd mid wheelie a few times and it makes for a very squidly looking wheelie landing.:headshake

I have found making good solid up shifts definitely helps... Hard to do with big chunky MX boots on sometimes though.
I've had that happen occasionally with 4th-5th as well. Usually as soon any miss-shifts occur I know I need to do an oil change. I'd also make sure your clutch is adjusted properly and the cable is good. I like to shoot wd40 through mine every once and awhile, you'd be surprised how much gunk comes out!

You have to be more aggressive with shifter. On my DRZ sometimes it happens when I am race shifting (no clutch) and don't hit shifter hard enough. Sometimes even when I am using clutch. Just push on it harder with your foot and it will not pop back to 4th.
Im glad I came across this thread...Mine does the same thing and I only have about 3k miles on my 2009. I though for sure I was gonna have some serious issues with my transmission. (Being a Kawasaki ZX6R owner I know this issue all to well)

So glad im not the only one:hmmm: It only happens periodically and usually under hard throttle....
