Husqvarna says Agip 10W60, but I want to use Amsoil MCV, and I only find 10W40 and 20W50.


When I bought the bike last year, (the bike was new) I went to a crappy service to change the factory oil, and they used Motul 5100 10W60.

Then I went to a very good service, and they used Motul 300V 10W40.

Why 10W40???
If the manual says 10W60, why a lot of owners are using thinner oil like 10W40?

This engine gets pretty hot, especially because it revs fast, it's air cooled, and the radiators have no electrical fan.

Shouldn't we use a thicker oil, like Husqvarna suggested?


What should I use during summer? Amsoil MCF/MCV 20W50, Mobil 1 MX4T 15W50, Motul 300V 15W60, or Motul 7100 10W60 ???

I would put that what is good in hot, but it need to fill those API recommendations.

I use this, it works fine in my bike, i change my oil about 500-800km and filter in every time, bike is used in street, some time hard

After all I ordered Mobil 1 Racing 4T 15W50.

I didn't got Amsoil 20W50 because 20W is too thick when I start the engine.

I also had the option to get Motul 300V 15W60 or Amsoil 10W40.

I hope I made the right choice.

I think the main reason people don't use the 10w/60 that Husky recommends is because it's hard to find. Probably why they used 10w/40 when they changed your oil, it was what they had on hand.

I used Motorex 10w/60 full synthetic in my 510 but had to order it online, good stuff but not cheap.

Crap...now you are making me regret that I didn't got the Motul 7100 10W60.

I had the impression that people stay away from 10W60 because it's too thick.

But in 2 tests that I found online, Amsoil MCF was the best, followed by Mobil 1 Racing 4T.

Neither of those have 10W60, so I got the closest one, 15W50 from Mobil 1.

Don't sweat it, I wouldn't throw the 15w/50 away and you're going to be changing your oil a lot anyway. Lots of people use different oil viscosity than the manufacturer recommends but I like to run what Husky says. It is important to change the oil and filter regularly though. The synthetic oil won't break down that quickly but changing it gets the contaminates out of your motor, very important.

I can still cancel the order and get Agip Racing 4T 10W60, that is half the price that I pay for Mobil 1 Racing 4T 15W50.

opinions on oil are like assholes, everybody has one...

just run whatever you can easily get your hands on and don't worry about it. you can deviate from the recommended viscosity, as long as you're not dumping cooking oil in there the engine will be fine.

I cancelled the order and I got Motorex Cross Power 10W60 for the summer, and for the cold part of the year I might get the 10W40 Amsoil MCF.

All I can find about Zip-Ty is a recirculation kit for oil.

I have been running shell 10w40 for years in all my Husqy's, works fine.
