I've been hearing a lot of different opinions on what's the proper way to switch off a motorbike. Some claim it is good to use the kill switch on the bars. Some others claim this is going to cause damage and should only use the key switch.
Personally, I find convenient to use the kill switch on my DRZ, because if the radiator fan has turned on, it will stay on and I can wait a bit until the fan is off and then remove the key.

Doesn't matter. All offroad bikes only have a kill switch that grounds the ignition. Drz is carb so you essentially do the same thing with the key or kill switch. Heck the side stand switch if you still have one.
As for the fan I dont really think it matters. Once the engine isn't running you aren't pumping coolant through anymore so a fan isn't doing much. The drz has a recovery can so it will burp coolant into that tank if the pressure is too high. If you are worried I would either cruise around till the fan is off.
