How do you remove a fork?

1459 Views 14 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  chimmy
I need to remove my left side fork tube (side with the brake) to see what caused the fluid to leak out. I have never removed forks on a bike. Can someone give me the total noob explanation of how to do this? I know the firist step is removing the front wheel. After that, I don't know what to do. I would like to apart as little as possible.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Drive a screwdriver, chisel , or wedge between the clamps that hold the fork tube. Just enough to spread them a little bit. Be careful not too much, don't want to crack the triple clamp. This allows the fork tube to slide right out without scraping up the pretty gold or black anodizing.
