Holes drilled in airbox side cover???

Hey, I noticed a few people had some holes drilled in the sides of their airbox for motard/street use? Just wondering if this is a common mod and if it actually flows a bit better air????

seems like the same thing that everyone else is doing, but a bit easier and maybe cleaner. also, i have a fmf pipe and my 450 runs great, but if i cut the airbox should i be expecting to have to rejet?
