Just wondering how most of you guys are riding when you get into the twisties, do you guys stick your leg and foot out, or are some of you knee draggers?

@ the track.... leg out...

but it is 100% personal preference

oh i am seeing now it says twisties..like as in public roads...and have no expirience with my 450 on the road...

I think public roads have more sweepers then short increasing radius turns where you can really MX it in the corners...
or on the track, thanks for your input, I have only ridden street, so I think it would take some getting used to, but I see that most do the leg out.....
I think the leg going out is most useful when the peg is going to grind a lot, just to get it out of the way, and as a potential tripod for extreme sliding. As such I never kick it out on the street, unless screwing around in a parking lot or industrial area etc.
I think it would depend on each persons background on bikes....I come from a motocross background, so putting my leg out in turns is second nature. I'm sure guys that don't have an mx background, and have only ridden sport bikes and whatnot, would prolly think it feels really weird to stick their leg out there. I know after racing motocross for 14 years, the first time I came into a turn a little hot on my R6 I had a split second instinct to stick my leg out. I caught myself before I actually stuck it out there, but it's just an instinct for me. I'm sure that would look pretty funny seeing a guy on a sportbike sticking his leg out mx style for the corners.
For street riding, the feets stays on the pegs, unless I'm in a parking spot or at a light. On the track, it depends on the corner. Either way, I never stick the knee out. Not even on the Z1000.
thanks for the responses, I wish I had been able to grow up on dirt, the first bike I had was a 600RR Honda. I guess when I go to the track, I will practice both and see what feels best

in tourist trophy on the ps2 you can ride supermoto style on sport bikes, and yes it does look pretty funny :D
thats funny, I have that game and it kicks arss, but I've never noticed that before. guess I'll have to break it out and play it some more since you reminded me I have it. I feel like tearing up laguna seca on a GSXR, I play on the head on view so I wouldn't notice what the legs were doing anyhow now that I think about it.

If you're concerned about riding in the dirt, to go http://www.dirtbikeschool.com and see if there is a school near you. I'm a dirt bike coach with the MSF and we'll get you comfy in the dirt in a day.

I do it just for fun when we're riding in the mountains. It's really fun to go around someone (usually on the outside) with the leg out.

Also for look at CornerSpin school!!!!:thumbup::thumbup:
I've been riding for 40yrs-taught by my Dad who's been riding for 60+ yrs-One thing we agree on is that you don't stick your leg out unless you have to.In the woods my friend got himself a 20" pin thru his femur after hooking it on a tree.On the MX track is the only place where you need to use a foot(squaring a corner, bermshot, broadslide).Other than racing ,having a leg out is risky.
i have raced mx for 5 years now, and i did my first and so far only supermoto race in june 2006. here are a couple pics...i think it is just a comfort thing, granted i am riding on knobbies lol, but one corner i had my foot out, the next i had it up....but i was also a lot more laid over.

the bottom one, i am the one to the left.

From all that I know and have read, in asphalt is knee draggin', but in dirt, you go foot out MX style.

My personal experience is foot out in MX - haven't done real MX in 4 or 5 years, though. But in asphalt I don't stick my foot out much, but still I do it sometimes. Inspite of that when on asphalt I don't knee-drag either - not while backin' it in, as I've seen some pro's doing -, I just knee-drag just on high lean curves.

Oh, the gear you're using is very important in this question too, because if you use rubber sole boots and stick your foot out in the asphalf you might snap your foot, so if you plan on doing this you must have plastic sole boots that slide on asphalt, although their not going to be as good in the dirt as the rubber sole would.

Since I can inject little conversation into this thread I will say this.

Considering I am to young, stupid, broke to afford a Supermoto, When it comes to riding mountain bikes, I use Knee out for anything over 30mph and Leg for anything under. But I went through shoes so fast considering I drag the heel of my foot through corners, So I bent a Piece Of scrap Sheet Aluminum to the shape of my shoe. then Just pop riveted the piece on to the heel, So far these shoes have lasted... almost 2 years.

Man, I need to go make some money...

both! in the same day at the track... leg out for backing it in, knee out for some of the other corners.... just depends on the corner.
I already saw nicky hayden backin it in draggin knee...
