How's the stock exhaust on the 450? Sound? power?

Is the full FBF exhaust worth it? The Ti can is nice. Does the exhaust add power/save weight/sound nice? Does it require rejetting?

Stock the exhaust is really quiet. I'm in the same boat as yourself: uncertain as to what exhaust to run.

Right now I'm looking at an exhaust insert from Australia but I've asked the maker if they have a dyno sheet.

What I can tell you is the SMs use the same cams as the TE trailbikes instead of the TC motocrossers. So now I'm trying to learn what is different about the TC cam profiles and trying to track down a dyno sheet to see if the TC has less of a drop past peak power than the TE and SMs do.

no- they recommend the '05 SM450 cams are different profile and considered an upgrade from the '04 model.

its what they recommended. '05 cams, remove the base gasket, rejet to taste...

but you know... this is all pretty moot on a damn cart track :headshake

I would not recommend changing it, spend your money elsewhere. You can get a little less back pressure with other pipes, but it only changes the power curve, it doesn't really help. I have never been in the top gear in a race, which tells me that low end is key; If you open the exhaust up any more, you are going to lose critical low-end.

And no, the stock pipe is not quiet and nowhere near street legal. If you are one of the idots that think a louder pipe helps, try to learn how these engines really work and the reason for back pressure. Most of the people that do that are simply trying to draw attention to themselves at the track or on the street.

Seriously increasing the power range is only going to shorten the life of the motor for a very small improvement. That may help the top level racers but few people can ride these bikes to their potential, and certainly nobody on this site.

that is because most people on these forums are like you, little punks with no girlfriend, money, or knowledge about anything
Boooooooohhh .... It started AGAIN !!! :Funny: :Funny: :Funny:
Did you forget to take your pills for today again???

Seriously ... who do you think are you going to impress with your unqualified statement? :thefinger

Moxie:

There is a grain of truth though in what he said about loudness<>power.
You want to be very critical when it comes to determining wether an exhaust actually produces more *umphh* or just blaring noise. Only the Dyno can tell the truth.

The thing I wonder though is, if like any other bike that is imported into the USA the Husky's are corked to be withing the legal emissions limits. A big red pig in Europe for example comes with 61 little wild horses pulling you forward and that is unheard of here ... you never get one from a normal Honda dealer that has more than 46 little tamed horses.
It would be interesting to find out if that is so for Husky as well.

I'll try and get some of the guys in the german Husky Forum to get some dyno results for 450's and 510's and then we'll see.

SuperRetard-

once again... words of wisdom.

its the old racing adage of- good suspension tuning is worth THOUSANDS in engine development....

but no one wants to hear that... that a stocker, well tuned, and well ridden is a veryy formidable weapon.

but most just want to buy shiny loud things....

ok, now go ahead and crucify me...

ive owned ALOT of bikes, and the husky is the loudest stocker ive ever had. i think the "street legality" of the huskys is questionable at best. i think they are only legal because of a loop hole.

i HIGHLY doubt anyone from the DOT, EPA, or CRAP(whatever...) checked these things for emissions or decibles... Husky is small enough to possible get in "under the radar". whereas somebody like Honda... which sells millions of units world wide-- must take in all that legal crap/ liability issues/ environmental concerns sometimes from the very inception of the vehicle.

thus, i think- as a stocker... the husky is alot closer to the edge than any jap street legal bike could ever be.

my humble opine
