Lots of track is what can be said about Road America. The track is over 4 miles long and the fastest on the circuit. The front straight had the bikes up over 130 mph. Emerson qualified 8th (2nd row on the grid) on Saturday. Race day Sunday Emerson threw the hammer down early in the race to break to a 8 second lead from a nine pack group (bringing him to P3) to try and catch the 2 leaders. He got close a few times but felt it was best to finish in a good position rather than risk crashing.
Post race formalities included the podium party (interview, trophy and photos) and then to a TV press conference with Speed Channel then to a Red Bull interview and photos. The Red Bull Rookies Cup website http://us.redbullrookiescup.com/news_detail.php?id=61
will be uploading new photos everyday over the next week.
Emerson heads off to California this Friday (back Monday) for some training. July 3rd he is off to Indianapolis Speedway for a test with the team.
Emerson had a great 2 days training and learned a lot from Doug. The track was nice and we ran different configurations each day. The days were hot with temperatures running between 102 and 106 degrees. Debra Barton’s bike ran perfect and she was kind enough to put Emerson’s number on it for the training. Emerson’s coach Darrick Lucchesi also showed up to assist. Looking forward to the test at Indianapolis with Red Bull on July 3.
