Transmission oil drains into the engine after about 10 minutes. Does anyone know which seal is dammaged? I heard its a problem with 2005 450's and dealers are fixing. Mine is a 2003. Anyone had this problem? :headscrat

while i have heard about this problem, i don't remember exactly which seal. maybe try the crf forum on thumpertalk.com and do a search. everything is there.

I have a 2003 CRF and mine started doing this last year. I researched it on Thumpertalk and wound up replacing the right side crank seal and the left side counterbalancer shaft seal. These are the only two seals separating the tranny and crank oil compartments. Problem solved! You need to remove the left and right covers off the engine but they are accessable without removing the engine or splitting the cases. The seals cost a few bucks each.

I think the some of the '05's came with the crank seal installed backwards so it fails. I see lots of posts on TT with people with '05s that have the oil leaving the transmission. Scary because one of the symptoms is when the oil runs out is a screeching noise from the tranny. My symptom was oil blowing out the airbox because the crankcase wound up being overfilled and oil came out the crankcase vent.

you can check the level with the scew when you change the oil ,after that its not not a problem there is know where for it to go ,unless you have that counter balance seal go,the engine burns a lot but the tranny none .

Actualy, if you have my problem, you just look at the engine oil window to check your trans and engine.
