Hi
After months of waiting for SMR magazine to be sent to me in Australia from my sister in Canada......it was all worth it. I now have lots of questions........

My question is....has anyone done the suspension mods to their bike similar to Bostrom's CRF? By that I mean revalve/heavier springs, but not lowered the suspension stroke, only lowering the bike slightly with an '02 link arm and by lowering the forks in the triple clamps?
It seemed simple - I just wondered if anyone else had tried it.
Also - it seems like a lot of people are using the CRF in the states - has anyone tried putting a 5-speed tranny on their bike? I know a guy who has a YZ with a fifth gear fitted.......I was just wondering if the TLD team etc still use a four speed gearbox?
Is the jury still out on a 5.5" rear rim over the 5" rim?

Cheers

I have heard so many different opinions about suspension lately. Some cats I've talked to say lowering the bike will yeild no advantage whatsoever. I'm not sure if I buy it but I can see a stiffer, taller bike being the best comprimise for track conditions.

our 2 sit 35mm lower front and rear , heaver springs , different valving , and heaver oil , they are lowered internaly , we tested them back to back ,as we done one and tested against the other wich had been done to the same spec apart from the lowing part. by the end of the day the lowered one was only about 2-3 tenths faster but so much more stable and smooth which made it easer to ride consistant fast laps.So now they are both mini me's .

Are there many differences in setting up and 04 to an 05?

Are you using the stiffest springs available? 0.49kg fork springs? What about the rear shock?

And is there a general spec for valving - because there aren't too many suspension gurus in Australia on the west coast who know supermoto.

MB1 Suspension is the company that did Bostrom's factory Honda. Valving and springs also has a lot to do with the riders weight and speed. There are so many things to do with a CRF it is not even funny. But—some riders like some things others not. 17 or 16.5 front wheel? 20, 22, 24 or 26mm clamps? O2, 03 or o4 link? Lowered or not lowered suspension?
I have ridden several different versions and laps times are similar if the bike is set up right - but some I liked better than the others. But others riders preferred the other bikes.
It is very subjective.
Start off with a basic bike, 17s, stock link, stock height and event stock suspension, than maybe stiffen up the suspension and valve more rebound control into the fork and shock. That is the best place to start

why dont you contact mark willis and ask where he got his done ,he is very fast and smooth ...
and we have 0.49 fork springs that are cut so makes them heaver ,heard yesterday some of the guys oer east running 0.52
rear spring was the heavest one that honda made
as for shock valving we used ones from nsr250 shock a lot more to choose from
