So Sunday rolled around and I was happy I'd be out on my 701 SM since my last attempt ended after 8 miles and a significant rain storm. Sunday's ride was out on a twisty, hilly two lane section of Highway 41 that rides mostly like a track day. Well, 40 miles into my 150 mile day, I was haulin' the mail through a fast right hander and had the rear end stepping way out. I gathered it up and pulled over at the next turn out and found the back tire flat. Not stoked.

There's a 1" slit in the middle of the tire, so it's toast. The Conti SM EVO tires are pretty spendy, but I really love the performance. Not sure about the durability for the areas I ride for obvious reasons, so might consider options.

Has anyone tried the Bridestone S21s or Shinko 010s in place of the factory Contis?

I haven’t used that model but I’ve had good luck with ShinKo tires in general. Sometimes need a bit more weight to balance and don’t last as long as some more spends tires….
I took the chance and ordered a set of Shinko A010s from Cycle Gear. $266 installed for the pair. I've only got a short shake down and scrub in ride so far, but I thin they'll work well. Good grip and feel so far.
