Hey everyone, Im new to the site and to the motard scene! I live in St johns newfoundland , in Canada...Theres not a moto in the province I willing to bet.
Anyway I have a few questions and was wondering if someone could help me out!

1- What size rims can i use on my 500 I am on a strict budget as i just rebuilt my engine lol. Can I use the stock 18 on the rear and get a 17 for the front?

2- Is it possible to get a lighting coil for the 500 or is there a cheaper yet effective way to rig up a headlight/brake light system?

3- How would i go about lowering my bike?

Thanx for the help and GREAT SITE!!!

Wheels and Coils

Cr500r,

I am just going through the same dilema as you are.

For the wheels I have opted to go for a set of 17 x 3.5 for the front and 17 x 4.25 for the rear. I bought some rims and spokes from East Coast Wheels and will use my existing hubs. I can't see the value in buying Talon hubs unless I have a small windfall expendable money. There are a few threads in here with people converting wheels from GSXR's but it all looks like too much trouble and money. Unless of course you like to modify stuff.

I have also purchased a 320mm front disk with the adapter to suit my standard caiper & master cylinder. This I got from Rock Mountain

There are several lighting coils on the market but in my case I do not need one. There is a coil that will fit inside your existing ignition cover and then there is a whole new unit that you bolt on place of your old unit. Prices for these I think started about the $550 + range.

Hope this is of help.

Electrex

There are two ways to go for lighting as I know:

1. Eline Accessories makes a coil that bolts to the outside of the stator, it then becomes a parallel electrical system independent of the spark circuit. this coil is housed in a billet housing that is nice, but pricey ~$500US:

2. Electrex makes an auxilliary coil&stator that, I believe increases the power of the spark circuit so that you can tap off of it for lights. This coil is available from White Bros. and several others and costs about $100US:

And Colrob is right, if you can lace your own, just get rims and use your stock hubs.
