About a year ago I posted a couple pics of this bike after swapping out the stock wheels and making a couple of upgrades. The bike was still using the horrible stock exhaust system which was both whispery quiet and heavy as a boat anchor. Over the course of the winter I picked up a Two Brothers M7 slip-on which not only saved about 10+ pounds but transformed the sound of the bike and probably netted a couple extra horsepower. I thought I would share a few pics of the exhaust since there were so few decent offerings in the aftermarket for the DR. The Two Bros. slip on mounted up perfectly and the build quality is high.

Not much left to do to the DR at this point other than ride it - guess I will have to start on a new project now!

nice almost looks just like the 400 is it fast
It is fast compared to the stock DR - I did all the basic stuff (rejet carb, open airbox, K&N filter). Compared to the 400 it is a lot torquier and pulls nicely from low rpm but does not rev out quite as high. I also went up +2 in the rear which help liven up throttle response. Around town this bike is a blast - soaks up every bump and squirts thru traffic with ease.

I could probably get a big boost in power with a big bore kit but do not want to diminish the streetability or durability of the proven 650 motor. When I feel the need for a higher HP motard I will probably look into buying a KTM.

What I like most about this bike is that it was built on a pretty modest budget. I bought it as a stock 2002 DR with about 4K street miles on it for $2600 a couple of years ago. I brought it home and stripped off every unnecessary bracket, light, reflector, etc. which really helped clean up the look. All together between some Ebay stuff I picked up for the bike (2007 tank & 2006 seat), plus new sticky brake pads, o-ring chain, sprockets and the slip-on exhaust (and having the supermoto wheels built by Aaron at Wheelwright) I probably have less than $5K total into this DR and it runs absolutely perfect and shows only 6K miles on the clock. Overall that is a pretty reasonable price tag for a near mint DR650 motard.

Did you just do the DJ kit? You should consider a FCR39MX. Great mod! Much better throttle response. My Dr really rips now! BTW Great looking bike!
