Check Out My Newest Tailight/Brake Setup

After struggling with the visibility of LED's through the stock lens, I ended up drilling holes in my stock tail light lense and sinking the led's directly into it. Now there is no lense obstructing the light for even more visibility. I also have 4 led's in each turnsignal which are also quite bright and use hardly any juice. I am running all my lighting off the stock stator. The headlight is a 35 watt halogen upgrade and it doesn't dim at the stoplights. The led's pulse just a little at idle, but at full brightness. Hopefully I am happy with this setup and can stop playing with led's and move onto other things. :D

nice! I thought about doing the same thing with the license plate, and eliminating the "lense" altogether
I'm going to stick a LED bulb in my XR650 rear light, do you think a red LED or a white LED would be brighter ?
I installed one of these and so did Michaeln
Ah, but then we get back to the old 'where the hell can I find a MX rear fender to fit my XR650' situation. :headscrat

why not just a store bought led bulb?... just plug and go!

http://www.beedspeed.com/bulbs.htm
Because:
1. there is still the issue of the lense making it less visible,
2. it was cheaper to make my own setup,
3. it looks better,
4. it's not just plug in and go,
5.that's cheating.
yeah doing yourself is always better all around..however..

...if you have $ to burn.....baja designs has a replacement LED setup - to replace their standard bolt on street kit.. it is $53 bucks..!
I love your setup, but me and wiring do not get along.

Is it for the 650? I have seen the Acerbis unit which is similar to the one above, but they are always for the straight MX fenders. Why doesnt anyone make a MX fender for the 650R like they did for the XR400? :hmmm:
i spoke to a rep at baja and they said they have it for the 650.

Tell me about it, I've been looking for a MX style rear fender for my XR650R for a year or so. Managed to find one guy who had one on his XR650R, it was made by a french company who he says went bust. He wouldn't tell me the company though.

Dude. that sucker is $54 !!! Those guys are making a killing!! I think the Acerbis one is a bit cheaper. But it doesn't have as many lights and looks cheezier. I think it's half the price. It is for the MX'ers only though. I am sure there will be more soon. The LED thing is taking off about as quickly as Motarding.

If you were going to play with leds's you should have done some thing like this, i done it on my bike as i love the minimal look! hate big bulky lights. Its almost invisible untill its turned on unless you know its there. :D

Mine wasnt very good as im not an elictrical expert and i didnt know how to make the bulbs get brighter so i just had 5 leds for tail light then an extra 4 came on while braking. As shown below

Bet you wish you thought of that :FU:

Me 2 i had to copy some one else :Argue:

I'd guess the reason would be that a the XR650R is no where near as popular as the XR4. As far as I know nobody makes aftermarket plastic for the big XR. BUt, that doesn't mean you can't have a CR style rear fender. A guy on the Yahoo XR650R club put a 99CR250 fender on his XR. It required some plastic cutting but it looks sweet. I'll see if I can dig up a link for you guys.
I found this picture ages ago, it's a XR650 with a '99 CR250 rear fender on it.

Someone posted it up on another forum. There wasn't a lot known about it but I think the general opinion was it's not a exact fit, the picture isn't really good enough to see if the rear fender fits properly.

Now thats very cool.......
I have one of the white LED bulbs and it isn't as bright as the stock bulb. I bought a heavy duty bulb from http://www.dual-star.com and it works great.
