Hey all,

I am new to this supermoto thing; but I want to get out on the track this summer, and now I am looking at a suit.

Anybody have recommendations?

What is the best bang for your buck?
What will give me the most flexibility and still not cook in?

2pc vs. 1pc? (I heard some tracks may not let you ride with a 2pc)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

First off, i recommend going with a 1pc. It offers much better protection and piece of mind and also fits better than the zip together 2pc. The 2pc's are nice because you can wear just the jacket for a quick run to the store or something but jackets are cheap and you can pick one up for that purpose if you need it (and dont already have one). There are a bunch of supermoto specific suits out there, you can find out about them here http://www.supermotojunkie.com/showthread.php?t=55631&highlight=suit . Also any RR suit will work but they are meant for a more crouched over position, the ergonomics of a RR bike and SM bike are different so the suits fit different but are still good.

All leathers are going to be a bit stiff when you first get them but after riding in them they will break in and fit you like a glove. I personally like the alpinestars S-moto and S1 suits but until you try some on you will never know. This is one of the areas not to skimp on the price, this could end up saving you from a whole lot of pain.

Hope that helps

I have the two piece (zip together) joe rocket SM suit. I love it. I have had a ton of wrecks, one in the top of 4th gear and it has protected me great. Also breathable and good in the summer.

hmmmm....
I have a few suits.
Dice Racing one piece- good suit for the $$. Unfortunately he quit selling them and unless he happens to have a left over in your size you are SOL.
AGVSport 2 piece with full zipper- Got it on clearance from Competition Accessories ($300). Sems good enough for a low $$ suit.
AGVSport 1 piece Roadracing suit- good suit (they are a sponsor ) but as mentioned it is not cut right for SM riding.
Teknic 2 piece with 6" zipper in back- This is what I wore all last season to race SM in. It held up to several  crashes with no problems. Never had any problem with it riding up. If tech allows people in MX gear to ride then you should have no problems with a 2 piece.
2 piece (forget the manufacturer, I bought it in 1981 or so) insulated- this is strictly my winter riding suit, but it did hold up real well when going through a barb wire fence in 1985.
Don't forget a GOOD back protector, those little pieces of foam that come with the suits don't count.

Not trying to thread jack, but I will be/ need to be in the market for a suit pretty soon as well. But, I have a slight prob with anything fitting me worth a sh!t - I do bodybuilding/powerlifting and am 5'9", 197 lbs with a 46" chest, 32" waist, and 26" thighs, and 18" arms just for a size reference. Is anybody else in this boat??? For example - I went a tried on an Alpine Stars body armor suit and I barely fit in an XXL. I almost got stuck in the last suit I tried on to boot. Basically anything that actually fits me is way to long in the torso, legs, and arms. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you need to buy the suit that fits onto you and then get it altered to shorten up the legs and arms.

Yeah, that would prob be the best route -just scared to take a $500+ suit to get it altered with the risk of them fubaring the thing...

get measured at a Vanson dealer and have them make you a custom suit.

I know there are companies that specialize in this kind of alteration (leather suits) and most of them can also make custom suits as stated above.
