I met with a local supermoto group, all with KTMs, and they all had Akrapovic exhaust!!!

Maaan, my Husky was so quiet next to those dragons

So I would like to install an exhaust sometime soon, and I would need your advice on which one would be better for my 2007 Husqvarna SMR 450.

From what I saw, most of Husqvarna owners chose LeoVince over Akrapovic.
Why? Does it sounds better on Husqvarna, or looks better?

If I get just the slip on, without the full exhaust system, the result would be much different from the default exhaust, or won't be a big difference?

I would say Akra in your bike and hole system...That looks cool, sounds epic.
But the end they all is like same to together. I would recommend buy that what you can find now days, then you need that jd kit to get more fuel, those A/F ratios correct.
I dont know in that year bike are there how bit different to compare full exhaust or just slip-on, of course that slip-on is good choice than stock one, in my year Husky, there is not big differents if compare slip-ons or full exhaust, they make about same power...You can also make that stock silencer flow better

Yes, I took the bike to install the jet kit, and they told me that I can modify the standard exhaust pipe to sound like an Akra, for less than 100€.

So I was thinking if I install only the slip on, what would have a better result in sound, an Akrapovic, a LeoVince, or save money and just modify the actual pipe to sound louder...?

If I would buy Akrapovic or LeoVince, I think I would have to pay for the full system to get the money worth.

By the way, I saw your Husqvarna 510 Akrapovic on YouTube...wow!

Thanks..
If you can find i would buy either hole or slip-on Akrapovic, to that sound little better that Leovince.
Of course that stock silencer would be cheap think, but i want to keep stock in stock and in reserve.
Also if you dont find any other exhaust or silencer, this would be good ideahttp://www.fresco-exhaust.com/450-sm-round-cone-stainless-p-590.html, maybe, it looks like Akra, i dont know how that will sound, but in one cc bike, that sound is almoust same of all bikes

Hey amigo, can you please tell me if I should make the original exhaust flow better, and modify it to be like an Akrapovic exhaust, for 100€, or if I would better buy a used Termignoni exhaust from an Ducati with quite many miles?

The guy that modifies exhausts, is telling me that he can make the original exhaust be exactly like an Akrapovic, and he is asking 100€.

He says that is a better choice to modify the oroginal one that is brand new, rather that get one used from another bike. Also, that Termignoni is a piece of crap, and is not good.

Before making a choice, I want to ask you, what is the better choice?

This is the used Termignoni exhaust (the silver one) and is 120€.

Do you think that if would fit my bike, would sound better that the modified stock exhaust?

Thanks.

This is easy, your money. Do what is best for you, but i would buy that correct silencer to that bike, or in my case i would make my own silencer...
If you have those tools you can make it your own, i dont know what kind of type silencer are that stock one, are there catalyst inside or are that silencer flowing through style silencer:hmmm:

I dont know what he means those things, of course that used stock silencer can be shitty condition, also you can maintain those silencers, but new silencers material in the silencer etc.
Are that Termignoni intended in Husqvarna smr model to your bike and it cost for you 120€, i would buy it then pay some dude 100€ to mode that stock silencer, becouse that sound like just soo easy work to make it your self, just drill those pop-rivets off, then easy to disassemble part that silencer, then you can see what to do if you but this in there

Of course you need to own welding machine or get you hands for use that machine..

If you can find one I would go for a single / double devil system. I've owned full akro's before but the sound on that was simply fantastic, they seem to be as rare as rocking horse poo these days though.

Arrow I can't find one made for SMR450 at a decent price, while Leo Vince X3 I did.

Around here I have seen mostly Huskys with Leo Vince...I was wondering why.

Why don't you just open up your stock exhaust yourself? All you need is a baffle core an some packing. Its very easy to do and wouldn't cost much. If you hate it, buy something else later.

I planed to do it, but someone told me that it's not a good idea, first because it will never sound like an Akra or Arrow, and second, because the engine stop will be modified, and that I should buy an exhaust made especially for this bike, or keep the stock as it is.

I found Arrow only for TE250/310. It's not the same as the one for SMR450, is it?

I will try to search more for an Arrow, and if I don't find one, I'll get Leo Vince X3 that has a good price ~200€

Well, I don't know what modify the enging stop means but what I would do is lay my hands on different exhausts for the 450 and measure the inner diameter of the baffle core and can length. That will give you a good reference point for what size core you need. Packing material choice will determine sound. If you like Arrow sound, buy their material. Same for LeoV or Akrapovic. Here in the USA it would cost about $25 to recore the stock exhaust. Not a lot of money, particularly if you like the finished product. My 510 Arrow had a 39mm core, my 550 has a 42mm core(Akrapovic) and my 690 has 50mm cores on a dual exhaust(LeoV). For the low cost I really suggest you give it a try.

I would quess, that was little cheaper, made more than others, more popular..It goes like here, if you see lots of those parts like that exhaust and price is low, you will buy it.
I would also quess those Leovince are quiet "race" silencer, if compare Akra or Arrow.

I dont know how that older bike work to new one, i mean that engine stop thing...
There is less electronics than these EFI models has and still there is few stock modifield silencer...

Those TE250/310 is not the same exhaust, to me you need to get best benefit those silencer, to put that silencer what is made to that bike, of course you can use others bike silencer.
But i have seen few bike whit other silencer, they not make that optical "power" like if you use 1000cc bike silencer, it is pointless in that 450cc bike.
What i have test and seen, those things what matter to how it will sound in those inner tube size, shapes, how long it is like exit90a was saying...
Yes, there is luck to get it sound like akra, but i would say you cannot notice that different

If that money is important, i would make that stock silencer then, but still i would make this. I would try buy other stock silencer and make it that or save some money and buy this

Also there is these
http://www.xracing-exhausts.com/
I dont have experience of that, but i will buy those same brand silencer to my 2010 husky, becouse i need in Eu-country that E-approval, to show my country cops this is legal exhaust. But i would expect that fresco is good choice that price, of course you can sell it. Or just search those Akrapovic, Arrow...Or those what is best in your selection

Wow, thanks guys.

As allways, you provide helpful information.

It's a good news that the sound of an exhaust pipe can be changed simply by replacing the core, but I have found only the Akrapovic replacement kit, and it's not cheap:

http://m.ebay.com/itm/271787288452?nav=WATCHING_ACTIVE

Maybe you can show me if you know the same core made by Arrow.

If this is possible, I would get that Arrow exchangeable core, and install it in the stock exhaust.

I'm only after a nice deep sound, I don't care about added performance and bhp.

Like here is some info http://www.daveysprocket.com/projects/smr_exhaust.html
Here is also some info how to convert that stock silencer to better flowing silencer, dont matter if that is other Husky model exhaust, but that principle is same
http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/2009-smr-exhaust-modification.16491/

I would go in my logal hardware store and get like these..
[/IMG]
That pic is for example, i dont know that word in english.

Lets write this again this here if this help...

First you have to drill those rivets off, then messure that inner tube length, also diameter, to make that hole tube in those both ends tubes(like that pic under this message, there is that red line, where to messure), so it need to be little smaller than those , then you drive your logal car part seller or hardware store and buy that, it is some exhaust tube where is holes, (cannot remember that name in english), then you can buy spare part that sound dampening stuff, in motorbike, there is that 4-stroke stuff.

I hope this would help you get make it work

You explained very well and detailed, but with the price I pay for the welder and the materials, I run around 100€, so it's much better to get a new one for 200-300€

So everyone is for Arrow?

Arrow for Husqvarna SMR450 2007 new

Arrow for Husqvarna SMR450 2008-2010 new

Which one?

Or this Leo Vince X3?
