These tires did 80 laps at Canby Oregon , 40-50 flat tracking at RMC, another 80 or so at Boundary Bay (BC) oh by the way... not so good flat tracking ;) :infrandom ok, so I'm alittle slow on the oval :twofinger pushing 100 mph at boundary bay ( next time I'll post the GPS display ) absolutely great tires... Sean said (Phlat) these tires "hold" surprisingly well.... Curt who races an open GSXR said wow, almost like slicks...me , when you make a mistake and try to brake waaay too deep the front end holds... hard gas outa corners they slip abit (KX 500 power) but very predictable and accept throttle modulation very well....Hey John If you see this PM me with the slicks I should buy( I saw you were talking about new ones)....is my rear I got from you (originally) a soft or a medium ???.....
Picts below.....

anyone try both supercorsa's and avons? i'm wondering how the two compare in stickyness/wear comparo?

i'm currently running a bridgestone soft bt002 front and LOVE it, it just flat sticks, but the rear only comes in 180 or something in that tire.

Avons do rock ! last Saturday we had 4 Super Motos for a quick romp in the Hills of Santa Cruz and on one of the rest stops we noticed.. WOOOW we all are running Avon Distanzias
High Speed Harry doesn't seem to be all that thrilled with his new set of Distanzias on his LC4 SuperMoto. He said he was unable to do stoppies at all.. the front tire just howled and then broke loose, it never had enough traction to pull the rear wheel off the ground.

That's not really a concern for me, as I seldom do stoppies and the front seems to have more than enough traction for me.

really? the thing i hear about those tires is that they are sticky and heat up quick, seems weird they wound't even stick for a stoppie, even on a big bike. i could do stoppies on my pilot street compound on my lc4, and that tire sucked cuz it never heated up enough.

i'm just wondering if the distancias get as sticky as a dot race tire?

anyone else try the bt002? i know bridgestones were crap in the past. i went with it on the recommendation of a shop racer, and it's a lovely tire. added bonus is they cost half as much as a gp208, like $90. only downside is lack of available rear sizes...

Something I've wondered about is this:

The Distanzias were around for a while before the SM specific sizes of the Distanzia (150/60HR17 and 160/60HR17) were introduced. The 120/70HR17 was one of the sizes that was available before the SM ones came out... and I am wondering if the 120/70 is still the older harder compound like the 150/70HR17? The one I have on the front of my bike has over 6,000 miles on it, and although it's getting cupped, it still has plenty of rubber in the middle.

If my theory is correct, then that might account for both the long life and relative lack of stoppie traction Harry saw.

I wonder if John Leach would comment?

actually thats a great point as my tires show alot more wear on the leading edge of the block as opposed the the trailing edge which is slightly worn.... cold PSI: 18/16 the front doesn't "cup" like the rear does..... :hmmm:

Its when the surface of the tire gets un-even... like a wavy side walk or something. Its from running too little tire pressure (which is what you do with a SM bike)

The Supermoto specific Distanzia was introduced at the same time as the Dual-Sport version. They have been in the lineup for about 3 years now. Only in the past year have they become extremely popular as Supermoto has really taken off in North America. The compounds in the sizes listed above have not changed and have always been a softer compound and lighter weight construction.
I hope this helps clear things up.

I didn't know that. I figured that since so many dealers even today (http://www.dmtaonline.com for instance) still only list the 150/70 and not the 150/60 that the SM tires were more recent.

So the 120/70 and the 150/60 both use the same compound and lighter carcass?

Any explanation for the inability to get enough front traction to do stoppies with the 120/70 when a 120/70 Avon ProExtreme Rain DOT tire did them effortlessly on the same bike?

I think Harry was running 32lbs pressure front and rear which is higher than I use, could that be it?

Sweet! I knew the Distanzia set-up on the red bike I sold John were awesome. Never let me down. Just a different profile than what I'm running on my Husky.. I can't imagine a more gummy tire.. I hear the Continental SM specific tire is super gummy.. anyone here running on them?

I thought that the Distanzias were quite grippy, too. Didn't get this one to the track, but had 5 or 6000 hard street miles on it. As far as the front goes, it's cupping but still has tread and I can put it on it's nose with an lc4, 270mm disc and I weigh about 290 pounds. No complaints on grip here!

new guy here..... looking to setup a plated 02 XR650R with rims and tires.. .. excel seems like the direction of choice.. what size would be best for road madness.. wet/dry... and the occasional out run through the backyard-wooded area?.. Avon 49/50 supermoto x-treme ? rims: 17" x3.50...17"x5.00..?
http://www.motostrano-store.com/avazprra.html

looking for something that can handle what it needs to handle when it needs to be handled..

---i also trek solo - good distances...
..... what is the deal with tubeless... it seems it would be best - quick plug co2 - back on..-- not looking for much road side drama..

why arent more set-ups tubeless.. i see that they're kits for spoked rims/tubless tires... is the seal reliable?..

thanks much !!!

Cant do stoppies on a Supermoto? Thats strange, i'm able to do stoppies on a stock motocrosser with knobbies and stock brakes :headscrat
There are still some online retailers not listing the 150/60HR17 Distanzia for somereason and i'm not sure why.

These sizes are the Supermoto specific Avon Distanzia tires:
120/70HR17
150/60HR17
160/60HR17

As long as you get these sizes, you'll be good to go !

Hey John,

I know tire pressures etc are so wide and varied depending upon a bunch of factors but......I would assume Avon has done some testing with their SM specific slicks and Distanzias and have a tire pressure in mind when they build a specialized tire such as these....
As a baseline what do you recomend (CRF 450 with a 180 lb rider etc etc ) for PSI on the Distanzias as well your line of slicks..... for example: is 18 lbs (hot) not enough , do you prefer 22-25 psi ????? again just lookin for a baseline...... I love the tires and want to continue buying them but want to make sure I at least get the sufficient amount of air in them top get the best performance w/o getting premature wearing etc......
Thanks !!
