Yes it inhibits push starting. I maybe wrong, but when I was researching this awhile ago I read a couple of owners that said that it also does not allow you to spin the rear wheel over to find top dead center when adjusting valves. :hmmm:

But, it could be bad info. I haven't done a slipper yet.

I think the correct answer to this questions is: it depends on how loose you have the slipper clutch set up.

Slipper clutch is designed to "slip" one way, and that "way" or direction is the same direction you would be placing the clutch under when trying to turn the motor over by rotating the rear wheel.

So, if the clutch is set up tight enough, and you are turning the wheel fast enough......and the bike is tuned properly........you could do it.

But then: if you have your slipper clutch set up THAT tight........ you probably just wasted 600 to 1000 bucks. ;)

i have the STM on my CRF 450 and you can only push start it in a high gear at at about 50kph thats why you would need a GP style starting machine if you want to bunp it ,why would you want to bump it any way ?

In case you are on the street and the battery bites the dust, or a hard start depletes the battery.

This is the same silly argument they had when they removed cranks from cars in the 1940's.

I DID actually run my battery down the first time I tried to start this bike, I just had no idea how to start it, thought I was flooding it for sure, when in reality I needed more gas.

"Recent issue of Sport Rider described how moto gp bikes can't be push started."

I'm sure the slipper clutches hinder push starting, but even if they didn't have slippers I'd like to see anyone push start a bike with three to five cylinders and what is probably an eight zillion to one compression ratio!! ;) I have an FBF hi-comp piston in the supermoto bike and it practically laughs at me trying to push start it- and if it's cold forget about it. And even that's not a really hi-comp setup, just more than stock.
