I realize it's a CR85 front end, but that is one of the things I am thinking about building. Have any of you done this, or seen it done? What is needed? (caliper choices and spacing, rotor choices and mounting, etc.)

My Crf150 has a similar setup. The stock Crf150 hub has a larger axle, you need new spacers to reduce the axle size to the 12MM of the Cr80 forks. The stock hub has the same rotor pattern as the Xr400, EBC makes a 320mm rotor that fits. The Crf150 caliper is plenty on that big a rotor. Remember It's a 150, not a 450. I have heard complaints that this was too much brake! You will need a new caliper bracket. The Cr80 forks are a bolt on except for the fork stop, you will either have to weld a stop on the headset or the bottom triple clamp.

The quick way is to contact www.regerengineering.com; he will sell you the whole thing or just the parts for this conversion.

:headscrat Yeah, and there is such a thing as "too much power", too... :hammer:

Damn, thanks for the great info! Is bolt pattern on the CR85 rotor the same as the CRF150?

No, the bolt pattern is different between the Cr80 and the Crf150 and so is the rotor size. The Crf150 stock rotor is a larger diameter than the Cr80's. Typically the Crf150's top speed does not justify that much more front brake than stock, remember there is an unsprung weight penalty for adding that big a rotor. It makes the wheel harder and slower to turn and makes the suspensions job harder.

At first people put 3 x 17 rims on the front of the Crf150, now they are going to 2.5 0r 2.75 x 17. Why? It makes the bike turn better and the little bikes are all about turning. You don't want to take away the only advantage you have do you?

Actually, I am leaning toward the CR85 instead of the CRF150 and I don't actually intend to race regularly; just going to play around on the kart track weekly... 2.5/3.5 rims with 125GP rubber is definitely the way to go for me... If I use a stock rotor with good pads and it holds up, I certainly won't waste my money. Thanks for the info and advice!

Okay here is the deal,

230 hub, reger axle spacer, cr80 axle, reger brake adaptor, ( I chose to use timeserts instead of crappy helicoil), ebc 320mm super moto disc, (i'll look for the part number later(very importnat as the manual is inccorect from EBC), and ebc offset adaptor....

rim is a 2.5 excel, buchanan spokes blah blah

is it needed? not really, way overkill, but 1 finger stoppies are the norm. If you just get the Reger spacer and mount adaptor , you could use the stock size disc/caliper and still have plenty of stopping action.

On a side note, Rubber Chicken Racing ran at CMRA at RSM (MSR backwards) with the new improved engine from engines only, if we had the jetting correct, it would have been fun, but as it turns out it was down right scary when it leaned out and then jump about out of your hands, also changing tire brands reared it's ugly head... make note to self, don't try to change to much to quickly....

way

What a great thread: all kinds of useful first-hand information, and almost no "my roomate's buddy's cousin read in a magazine" tech advice. Thanks!

Haha a CRF150 huh :hmmm: . Let me bust your chops a little and quote what you said a week or so back :twofinger

Own-ED. It's gone and I'm 'gonna burn some oil! In the meantime, I need to either pick an 85 (CR, YZ, RM, KX?) or buy a Metrakit.
Don't knock the diesels, they are torque monsters :Funny:

No, I decided not to get it just because the garage is too full now. I will probably get rid of my Aprilia soon so I can get the new Supermoto Aprilia when its available :Funny:
