Amago- 2 1/2 hours closer than Grange

I'll be up there Sunday. I'll also be taking the KX which is for sale (maybe not - if I have fun on it)http://www.supermotojunkie.com/showthread.php?t=5461
I'm going with an MX buddy so it'll be mostly MX, but I hope to get him into Supermoto. So if you see a guy in Honda MX gear on a Yamaha Supermoto maybe you can slow up, and we'll make out he's a great natural talent :) , thanks.
I think I'll be out at Amago on Sunday as well. Saturdays seem to always have more cart folks out there. Anyone else heading out? Anyone heading to Grange?
Here is an FYI to any SoCal riders out there who typically ride Amago: I just called Apex and talked to one of the staff. Here's the latest on the Supermoto schedule as of 7/1/2005: Open practice INCLUDING Supermoto Wednesday, 10am-6pm, Thursday and Friday 10am-9pm. This means bikes may share the track with karts. Saturdays and Sundays they are too busy with kart schools and races to allow supermoto bikes, but at least they've expanded the bike practice days!

So I guess it's still Amago for this weekend although I saw a post where some riders are heading up to Buttonwillow on Sunday to practice for the next SuperTT race.
Amago - 3hrs closer than Buttonwillow

Buttonwillow is about 3 hours one way from San Diego. The Kart track on which the supermotos practice, is way slippery with even slicker patches at the apex of each corner. The dirt section is three turns of a powdery substance, with the tight layout the bikes are basically at idle through the whole dirt section. Having said that I will definately be at the next SuperTT race there, but for a six hour round trip just to practice, you are definitely going to be disappointed. :headshake
I would rather go to Amago, try your Supermoto on the Vet track  while the pocket bikes or Karts are on the asphalt.

Slicker than Amago?

What about minis? Any word?
Amago - not so slippery

Yep, on the patched sections.
The apex to most corners at Buttonwillow have been patched with a very fine asphalt that yeilds little grip (at the worst possible place). Many people at the last race were taking lines that avoided the patches, the brave took the corners without regard for the patched areas, a few ended up on their head. See photo below, note the patched black shiney surface, tentative lean angle etc. Next time I race there I'm going to put on the stickiest front tire I can find.
Photo 2, there is more grip around the outside.
I wonder why to STTARS summer series only hits Grange twice? Seems like it is a better circuit than Buttonwillow and HTM?
Amago is patched the same way.

 Horse Thief Mile Rocks!
I didn't ask about mini's when I called Apex, sorry. If you look in the SuperTT forum, there is blog there with the Apex phone number if you like.

So anyone heading out to Amago tomorrow? I'll be there fore sure. If anyone does come out, try running the track in the opposite direction. It's a blast!! I still would like to see the dirt section again.

Oh yeah, I'm with you MotoMartin. Horse Theif Mile is a superb track. Excellent tracks and superfun. I also like this year's Fontana configuration. It had a decent flow to it and traction wasn't bad.
Amago - because it's good enough for Eric Bostrom

Those in attendance at Amago on Sunday were treated to sharing the track with pro road racer Eric Bostrom. Bostrom was practicing for the X Games on a new KTM, and pounded out many fast laps, creating a new line across the dirt between turns ten and twelve, straightening out the small chicane.

One lap as he came up to overtake me, I motioned with my foot which side to pass on, as he slides his bike way the hell sideways into the turn, at a crazy lean angle, he flashed me a peace sign with his left hand. Very Cool. Yeah, the guy can ride.
MotoMartin - Yesterday was a superb day to ride for sure. Pity we didn't get to ride together a bit more, but shortly after you arrived my back tire went mysteriously flat in the middle of a session. Next time we'll share a few sessions for sure.
Cheers, longthrottle.
