After Storage?

630 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  jener8tionx
I have recently retrieved my DR400 from storage. It will run fine but as soon as you pull in the clutch and put it in first gear it dies. I found some information that mentions the clutch plates might be sticking. So I removed them all cleaned and relubed them, still same problem. Any thoughts before I drop my next paycheck at the stealership having a mechanic look at it?

Try giving it a rolling start before engaging first gear. My SMR does that after a few weeks of sitting, but if I start it, get it rolling and the put it in gear, it's good until the next time.

If that doesn't work, then something else is obviously wrong.
Is your kickstand down? I know on a few bikes they have a safety switched wired onto the kickstand, but not sure if the DR's have it.
The kickstand and operator error was option 'b'. After pushing it through the yard a couple of times it is free and seems to be working fine now. Shifts through all gears with out a problem. See, yet another reason why they should never sit longer than overnight.
a jet in the carb may be gunked up? Does it rev right up in neutral?
