hi,

this is my first post on this website. i just got back from iraq, and purchased an 05 zx-6r. (should be in any day now). while i was there, i asked the guys at the shop about building a supermoto bike that was street legal. i was thinking about a crf or a yz, but after getting wheels/ tires/ brakes/ dual sport kit/ and new stator, it would be about as expensive as the DR-Z 400 SM. the advantage of the DR-Z would be that it is brand new, easier to register, as it is made for street use, comes with warranty, electric start, etc. would you guys recommend this bike? ive never ridden a dr-z before, so i really don't know anything about it. are dr-z's really slow? on the suzuki website, it says the bike weighs 295 lbs, so i'm wondering if the bike is too heavy, also.

does anyone know approximately how much power a dr-z makes, and how much can be gained through some headwork, exhaust, and cams? any help would be appreciated.

thanks,
lcpl ronnie simpson, usmc

That red and white 510 is pure sex  . I'd buy one if it weren't for this bad boy still in the back of my mind.

I have just recently aquired a DRZ-400SM and I was told that a pipe and cutting a 3x3in hole in a specific place in the air box and then a jet kit is a cheap way to get a little more hp.
ive got the drz with an fcr 3x3 and 14/43 gearing. still runs 94mph and its a total blast around town. there are guys tuning it with cam work, big bore to 50hp+. would be alot of $ to get it that strong though. head over to www.thumpertalk.com to read about all the crap people do the to drz.

with my current mods im very happy with my bike through the first 3 gears. needs more hp to make 4th and 5th better... then i could gear it to top out around 110 and it would be much better in some of the faster turns. overall it is definately down on power, i want suzuki to make and sm with the sv650 motor. probably be heavier but i think it would be worth it.
yeah, that would be awesome. I actually have an '03 SV and I can't imagine that motor in a drz. It'd be a real kick in the pants!!!
