  1. KTM 450SX CDI on KTM 560 SMR

    Chat
I think the 450 CDI was a “mod” back in the day. Partially to raise the limit. Maybe the electronic limit is higher than the bike wants to rev for other reasons? I doubt the ignition is causing the “lack of cleanness“ Good luck.
  2. Motorcycle throttle won't maintain steady speed.

    Chat
There are throttles available with different size “actuating diameters”. Putting the smaller diameter on makes the “throttle slower action”. could help?
  3. What supermoto should i get?

You can buy a lot of oil for the difference in price between a KTM525 and a Husky 701. The 701 (or 690) is the standout for your requirements in my opinion. I don’t think 690/701 are “unreliable”. but probably are compared to an XT660 (Which would bore me to death - but I’m not coming off a 125!!)

That bike needs a “tune” more than it needs a slip-on. Potentially, the bike might run even leaner with a slip on. The biggest advantages of the slip on are weight and pipe running temp (Cat in the muffler) I run a Wings. Loud with no insert.
  5. 701 plug connection identification

Hi, can’t help you directly, but I purchased the “de smog” kit from Rottweiler that I used without issue. It ensured that the “system” could “see” the correct resistance etc, without interfering with anything. (Didn’t cut any plugs off.) I have a vague memory of seeing unused plugs when I was...

The frame looks nicely braced when it’s bare. Good basis for a nice handling bike. I have a secret plan to build an F3 bike out of a Duke 690 (2016+, with the latest engine.)

The original front sprocket has a rubber “damper” built in. I believe to make it quieter. Couldn’t notice the difference when I replaced it with another “standard” looking one. Pretty sure any “KTM” front sprocket is fine. (But I’m no expert). No matter what, leaking around the counter shaft is...

Can give a few suggestions to a few of your Q’s 1. You might get away with adding 2 teeth to the rear. Probably not. Try adjusting the wheel full forward and see if you think you have enough spare? An option is a second joining link, and a “half link” - need to be the same brand. Potentially...

Great photo’s Bike/Rider/ Action all look fantastic. What are the plans in your quest for another 10hp?

Guys I race with, just buy a pack of various sized “Hydraulic O rings” from the auto parts store. Each pack has 3? that are the correct size. My Husky dealer has obviously found a source (Not genuine) he gave me one for my 701, and one for my FS450. Unfortunately, I’d left them home when my...

The stock seal is a flimsy “cup” type seal. The failure is obvious upon disassembly - mine was “ripped”. The O ring replacement works well - just need to ensure the O ring is “Hydraulic” rated material. My experience.

I’ve mentioned it before on one of these threads: The easiest and cheapest fix for the slave cylinder issue is to replace the seal with an O ring. You need the correct size, in “hydraulic” material. I haven’t heard of this fix failing.

I need two of those slave cylinders. The local “cheap” fix is to replace the faulty seal with an O ring (hydraulic rated). Reports are that this “fix” has never failed. I had to do it between races recently.
  14. Handling geometry of steel frame compared to aluminium frame (WR400/426/450) ?

    Yamaha
I understand the main motivation for the switch to AL MX frames was cost (and fashion). Somewhat surprisingly to me, they are cheaper to produce. All my Supermoto bikes have had steel frames - KTMs/Husky’s

I liked the original Conti’s, so bought a new set. They seem a bit “skiddy”: let go (on the mould release?) riding to the service station on the first km (despite being very careful). Also let go unexpectedly on the race track once. Must be a bit predictable as I didn’t crash either time. Might...

SM is making a nice comeback in SE QLD. We have practice at “Minimoto” events at Lakeside Raceway (driver training track, not GP circuit) Really good value practice at Gympie Kart track. Minimoto also runs practice at another kart track. There is Supermoto Racing this weekend at Stanthorpe (no...

Let us know, but I think the width means different hubs between both.

The best quick change option, using the same chain, is to swap the front sprocket to one bigger, and run 3 (or 4? Can’t remember) smaller on the Sumo Wheel, then reverse the axle blocks. This requires minimal chain adjustment. Unfortunately this means the SM wheelbase is longer, while the MX...

The “Big” KTM/Husky rear wheels are much too wide at the hub - don’t fit. (Well not without insane mods!) Potentially you could use your rim and spokes, laced to a new hub - maybe not worth it. With axle size changes at different year models, wheel swaps can be “problematic”, especially, as...

The wide ratio has some advantages in my opinion. You can have a low enough 1st, but give the engine a rest while “cruising” in 6th. Are you planning on Sumo 17” wheels all the time, or 21/18” or swap between?
