How are the big 2strokes for power delivery? I've always thought 2strokes were like light switches - either full throttle in the powerband or nothing...which seems like something you wouldn't want as you're coming off the apex.

the bigger the bore the more smoother the powerband is.

PLEASE SEE DYNO GRAPH IN NEXT POST


To further the confusion about what people are referring to when talking about dyno numbers....this is for my Vertemati 600 . This is on a Factory Eddy Current dyno.....which supposedly reads about 10% lower than the more commonly referred to dynojet #'s.

"big bore" kitted two strokes have always had a rep for having a narrow powerband w/a hard hitting character .

It's easy to have a really broad wide powerband w/ a big bore 2 stroke.

Heck I build one myself. My 300cc top end on my 250SX w/ porting, different pipes, altering base gaskets, and different compression levels has right at the same peak hp as it did as a 250 but the powerband is just super wide. It starts on the bottom and literally pulls very smooth and strong right up until it hits the rev limiter.

Not running a 'tuned' expansion chamber is key to this. You will have less peak but a wider powerband will be the result.

How reliable is the motor after all these power mods i.e. turbos etc.? I'm plannin on gettin a DRZ 400-sm real soon and want to make more power out of it while still having a reliable bike

The highest HP bike I know of is the 89hp SXV550 tuned by www.qms.be

Blue is stock, red is tuned...

Ducati Hypermotards have pretty decent power, but they are on the borderline to supermotards I think that old XR turbo from sweden is about 100rwhp if I remember correctly. My local KTM dealer asked me if I wanted to get my lc4 tuned, appearantly there is an austrian company that gets about 90hp out of the lc4 machines. But reliability was still an issue

on ebay right now theres a cr500 engine thats supposed to be making 103 hp on alcohol.

I read something somewhere on the internet about someone living somewhere, who was getting something like one hundred hp out of a single cylinder engine.

Sorry no bike details, don't know if it was pump gas or nitro, EFI or carbed, sorry no links or pics.

yeah, because its not like i didn't tell you the site where i found it or anything. sorry if going to ebay and searching the term cr500 engine was too complicated a task for you...

That started life as a dr-650 motor. From the base gasket up it's all machined from billet. Twin cams,fuel injection, must have cost a small fortune. Wonder what he put it in, its way taller than stock with the twin cam head.

Screw the biggest horsepower, I wanna know who has the lightest sumo. I'd put money on that one in a race between the 2. Depending on the track of course, but we are talking about sumos.

Horsepower: 63 bhp at 7500 rpm

I have a 2008 250SX 2 stroke mx bike that has a 300 ported cylinder, trick carb, etc... It also weighs 210 (weighed it myself) ready to ride in MX trim.

I guarantee that it makes at least upper 40's for hp and that I could add less than 15# to get it streetlegal. And it has crossed my mind a few times to go that route.

But since I was pretty much raised on liter bikes I need some real hp and when you gear a bike to go say 100 mph it starts to feel a lot weaker all of the sudden.

So I love light weight but I still want to be able to loft the front tire while cruising down the freeway and would sacrifice a bit of weight gain to get that.

Get a KX500. Throttle only wheelies at any speed you like.

The guy with the xr650 turbo is benny (boost3, boostIII on forums) and he tried it up to 125 rwhp. Theres some pretty detailed threads but in swedish only.

Not sure if hes running 125hp in the vids tho.

Other then that id give my left nut for a husaberg 750cc big bore kit not sure if jbsracing ever got the even bigger once made.

Easiest way for me would be loosing some weight tho cause all that mathers with hp is waight to hp ratio including driver :P

Speaking of which, why is the Aprilia dorsoduro labeled as a "supermoto" to begin with? I'm looking at the bike, then I'm staring at the specs and there isn't any reason why I'd classify it as anything besides a standard/naked bike.

They slap an extra 1" of travel front and rear and all of sudden it's now supermoto instead of a standard?

You guys should be concerned with power to weight ratio. My wifes supermoto that I just built is a 150r with a 250r motor. Full tank of gas and full sumo trim is 190 with 40hp. And she only weighs 110 and I'm 165. Deadly combo. In the twisties it will SMOKE my sxv 550
