Default regulations for road registered custom motard

hi all, jus been searching the net for some regulations of what legal modifications (ie. motor, suspension, wheels interchange) can be done to a trail/supermotard and i haven't found anything which outlines this area.
So if anyone can help in my search that would be great?
thanks guys n happy cruising

I might be able to help narrow your search. I don't know where you live but assuming you have a title for the bike I'm pretty sure all your state is concerned about is 1) Safety (i.e. headlight, brakelight, etc), 2) Possibly noise (i.e. exhaust), 3) Possibly emissions.

So your questions about motor mods, suspension, and wheels may be moot. Check w/ your state's DMV. Check out their website.

In Virginia you need a title for the bike to get it registered to be ridden on the road. You also need a safety inspection which in my experience has been nothing more than a guy at a certified inspection station checking the headlight, brakes, and turn signals.

I'm sure that there's more to it (for example, you can't put a 4-wheeler on the street).

sorry, didnt explain in that question to good..
Im planning on building a motard out of a road rego legal 4stoke trail bike. But my plan is to run a set of roadbike(ie. R1 or Fireblade) upside down forks, wheels, and brakes, with a modified rear swingarm, and im planning to put a 250cc roadbike motor either single piston or a parrellel twin motor in it tho so the bike can handle more road miles if the standard trailbike motor wont handle it.
So my point is what mods are going to be legal for me to do. I live in "Australia" in the state "New South Wales". if anyone can forward a link to the regulations to pass an engineering ticket that would be great.
Thanks chad
